Resell Reseller Accounts?

Posted by cheezyal, 03-13-2005, 08:21 PM
Hi, I was wondering, if there are hosts out there where you can resell, reseller hosting accounts? I cant seem to find any?!! Thanks for you help. Great forum here btw.

There are no mainstream control panels that allow this, to my knowledge. There is a free plugin for CPanel/WHM called WHMSubs, that can do this, but it's not without its bugs in this stage (though hosts are free to modify the code themselves). If you can find a host who is using WHM Subs, that would be your best bet.

CPanelSubs / WHMSubs is a program/script that enables you to create resellers under your reseller account. It sounds attractive, however, it will cause you and your host many problems in the end. Well written or not, it will do more harm than good.

Ok, Thanks So, a better solution would be to move to VPS and set up my own cpanel and stuff? Is that allowed when you rent VPS, to setup a reseller? Ive had a look and cant find info anywhere? Or, do you have to rent a full server somewhere to be able to do things like that? Thanks every1

cheezyal, Welcome to WHT Actually, there are a number of hosts offering this feature. You can also contact hosts directly and see if you can strike a deal with them on reselling their reseller packages.

for your own cpanel it would be your own server. Basically a VPS is <10 resellers. So you have more resources and server load will be better however in a shared reseller enviroment it can be >100 Also a VPS, your site would run like its own server. I will let the experts explain lol.. They can put it better

Several of these emerged and the submerged in 2004 - I believe with the rise of VPS solutions (as mentioned earlier). A VPS solution would be the way to go. :-) Roj

Posted by TennilleIsHott, 03-16-2005, 12:06 AM
doesnt the stability of the server management break down when you have to call a person who has to call a person.. that could get ugly

http://voltagehosting.com/ I think its an addon - for $4.99/month more. I heard some great reviews about them but I've never been with them myself.

Thanks for all the replies. Ive had a look at all the sites mentioned. Ive decided to take ur advice, and just stick with reselling shared hosting for now. I can see that reselling resellers could just get out of hand, and the troubles with supporting everything. I will see how it goes, and the next step would be VPS then. Thanks every1. I think this forum is soo good. a wealth of info and knowlegable people around here. !!!!!!

Posted by rbrowme, 03-17-2005, 11:51 AM
the easy solution would be to just set up something where you can get a commission on any reseller accounts you sell, that way you are free from having to deal with support issues.

well theres more than just the plagued cpanelSUBS/WHMSubs deasoft.com

Posted by Shaw Networks, 03-17-2005, 11:21 PM
I can vouch for that, we installed WHMSubs on a test web server of ours, caused nothing but problems. I highly recommend against installing those pieces of software. Maybe cPanel Inc. will release a sub-reselling feature soon.

Interesting. Do you use this software? If so, what can you tell us about it?

Posted by grace5, 03-20-2005, 02:03 PM
Just have a few accounts on it but it has not cause us any problems.

I don't Mind.. Kenneth with HostNetway is a very good person and has a good company this is not against him at all. The issue (just one) they ordered a new server and put us on it it ran fan for about a weekm then everything went down hill from there. It was down about 3 days then it came back with with minimal services.. It ran ok during the next 3 1/2 days or so. Then the night they was moving us off that bad server (badly misconfiured they said and corupy filesystem files) datacenter's faught or who ever configured server I guess. Anyway the night HN was moving us to their other Production server, the one that was having issues crashed again, this time the DC could not get it up. All but 6 domains was lost. 2 of those was my clients. but I and the rest of my clients and other resellers lost everything, the DC gave up on recovering the data. So I lost money for one having to give refunds to my clients, plus time to redo my billing system and revover all my clients and getting them into it. (I will learn to do more backups now) Anyway I was willing to let this go, but my clients said No. Uptime was good up until that point. I wish I could have stayed with HN, but best of luck to you HN

sure your in the correct place

This server (Blizzard) was hosted with X-Gravity / TheNYNOC, and as some may know, X-Gravity also had a hard drive failier. I do not recommend the services of TheNYNOC.com nor X-Gravity.net as they do not know how to configure hardware nor do a complete OS install correctly, as easy as it sounds. As some may know, we used to also resell for them, and just to give you an example of how it went, of all the servers we resold for them, we have 0 remaining resold customers to them, just to give you an idea. Anyways, we look forward to the future with QuickPacket at GNAX. Thanks

Sorry to bring up a thread that hasn't been posted to in a while, but I was reminded of this thread from recent posts asking about such software. Anyway, I took another look at deasoft.com that I commented on earlier. Then it struck me: the site looks awfully familiar. Fast forward to theplanet.com and eerily similiar. A shame too, 'cause I think that software is promising. I know its off-topic. Sorry. Just had to get that out.

Anyone else offering this reseller/reseller service? Reason I ask, is I currently have 2 dedicated servers (one windows, one freebsd), and have for a few years now, however I've never dealt with hosting clients and would like to as I know I've been missing out on a lucrative and rewarding end business on the InterWeb The reason I haven't done it myself in the past is that I really don't want to deal with the cost of custom programming to setup as a webhost, hire phone center/support staff etc, thus I'm looking for a reseller environment that's flexible enough to allow me to bring on other resellers under me... (I have a very specific reason for this). I will look to upgrade my sub-resellers and direct clients to their own dedicated server as the need warrants... Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions on hosting that could handle this type of setup. Last edited by SeanIM; 03-26-2005 at 07:42 PM.

The are hosts out there that allow you to resell reseller accounts but many of them charge you for the privillage could be as little as $10 a month or as much as $100 a month depending on how much you are reselling. I suggest doing a web search.

Just get a VPS with root access.

Posted by The Napster, 03-27-2005, 06:02 PM
Thats the whole idea of VPS

It seems like it would be easy to get a host to cut you a deal on multiple reselling accounts. I know I would.

This is how I personally got started in 1999. If you are interested in this know this, you need a closer provider (Closer in communication). You want your provider to understand the layered marketing and control (That you'll need). Just contact a reseller service, ask for discounted plans (Usually after the 2nd or 3rd a fairly acceptable discount should be available (To be a reseller or reseller services generally the vendor must have faith that they're not just being used for the discount and only the discount). Any reseller service that understands the different marketing angles of large resource hosting understand the deeper side of marketing to help you gain what you need, and support you with the right information.

Seems to me that HostGator offers the solution of re-selling reseller accounts. Why go through the trouble though? -Randon Burst
