Bluehost went down a few minutes ago?

Posted by wula, 11-05-2008, 05:05 AM
Just now I suddenly couldn't visit my website hosted by bluehost. Nor ftp service. I was to submit a trouble ticket to their support team but found I couldn't open bluehost.com either. Ping to bluehost.com failed. What a hell! The good thing is everything comes back online in about ten minutes. Anyone here experienced that situation too?

Sounds strange, more like network issues to me, if one of the customer servers was inaccesible and their main site, I doubt a customer server and their main server went down at the same time, so network problems can be the only conclusion drawn IMO.

I invited a few friends via msn to try to open bluehost.com. none of them succeed. I tried to ping it via network-tools.com. Failed again. After that I made the above conclusion.

I tried to ping it via network-tools.com Often times a server may respond to ping, but not really function properly. A number of servers won't respond to pings as the admin sees it as a security-related unnecessary risk. You can use host-tracker.com or alertra.com to check if the actual website is working from several parts of the globe.

Since you state that it had went down for about ten minutes only, I doubt many or anybody will notice it.

It could have been network issues at bluehosts datacenter side and not necessarly on the clients ISP side?

My personal site was also down for a little while not too long ago, came back up within an hour or so.

Just a question - did you call them to find out what the problem was? It is good to report the problem here at WHT to make sure the general hosting community is aware of it, but it is also always a good idea to contact your host directly when you are having trouble. This is the most direct way to have the problem resolved.

I have emailed them, but no reply as yet. This is the first time there has been any downtime in the years I've been with them though, so I'm not too worried.

Well, I meant a phone call, not an email. That is always the most direct way to receive support.

I used Bluehost for two years and had many problems with downtime and other issues where they proved to be an unreliable host.
