DIYhosting 4 month review

Posted by subodhm, 03-16-2005, 03:59 AM
Hello Everyone, I've been a reseller for DIY Hosting for the past 4 months (10 days short of 4 months). I thought it would be nice to share my experience with the forum members. Let me start of by saying that I have very few negative comments to make. They are absolutely BRILLIANT. I've taken up their hsphere reseller plan btw. HSPHERE is a bit intimidating to start off with, though once you get the hang of it, it automates a lot of your tasks. I've gone through quite a few WINDOWS web hosting providers and DIY are awesome. POSITIVES 1. Support Staff - extremely knowledgable on their control panel, VERY polite, one of the most polite support staff i've come across. There have been several instances where i've had to ask them simple questions, the answers to whichare there in their reseller manual and they've been patient and polite and pointed me in the right direction. 2. Stablity - i've had a few issues with configuration changes and stuff on their server, but they've been most co operative and resolved more issues. I monitor downtime with Host tracker on a 60 second basis and their uptime has been around 96 to 98 percent on average on most servers. That's good enough for me. 3. Price - i think that for what they offer their price is very competitive. NEGATIVES like i said earlier, the negatives i've come across are negligible. there have been a few instances where they've taken slightly longer to respond to tickets, but they have a lot of clients sometimes things take a while to attend to. It happens everywhere at some point or the other. There was also an instance where they did an update on one of their servers and this affected my websites, but in the tickets they kept insisting that i must have changed the coding, however i picked the phone up and called them and they resolved the issue in a couple of mins. If you have any queries regarding this post please PM me or reply to this post and i'll try and give you an answer. Keep up the good work DIY.

Hi subodh, Thank you for your feedback. I'd like to just respond to one comment though, regarding uptime. I'm quite sure that must be a typo (96-98%), because no server of DIYHosting's has been down more than 39 minutes in a month since November of 2004. 96% uptime would mean we'd been down for 24 hours every month, which is of course not the case (we'd have no customers left) The last time we were in violation of our SLA was on win-02 in October, for 49 minutes of downtime, and in that same month web-06 was in violation with 46 minutes of downtime. Hi Dean, Yes i'm sorry i got the figures mixed up, the uptime is round about the 99% mark except for one site which was having some issues. I would edit the post but have exceeded the 15 min limit. I request a moderator to edit the post.

You should define "there have been a few instances where they've taken slightly longer to respond to tickets" a little better to help other make the right choice. Some people feel 30 minutes is outragous and will start complaining, while others are perfectly content waiting 5 or 6 hours.

When i say slightly longer, i mean that they've taken 5 to 6 hours to respond to some of my tickets, those are the ones that i've had to wait on for a bit. Most of my other tickets have been responded to from 2 mins to half an hour.

Hi subodhm, Thanks for the thorough review of your provider... As mentioned by Dean - I would be shocked if their uptime average was anything less then 99.9% - however, you did list their uptime as a positive - so, I am particular you meant this as a positive point vs a negative
