Need windows reseller suggestions

Posted by cutdes, 01-26-2005, 10:12 PM
I would really appreciate some suggestions. I am a web designer that offers hosting for my clients. I'm currently hosting about 24 sites at godaddy. Just the typical 9.95 shared hosting. They're not particularly large sites or bandwidth intensive. If things continue as they have, I'll probably be adding 3-4 sites per month. Here is what I need: Windows serverASPPHPMySQLMS Access databasePersits ASPupload & ASPjpeg (would be a plus)minimum 80 gb disk spaceminimum 1000 gb bandwidthunlimited domain hostingunlimited user accountsadmin & customer control panelminimum 99% network uptimedaily backups24 hour tech supportwebmailpassword protected directoriesaccess to SSL I'd like to budget $100-$175/mo for this, but could go up some if the package is great and the host is reliable. I don't have much server management experience, so I'm not sure if I should go with a dedicated server. I've been struggling with three possibilities: self-learn how to manage a server and get a dedicated server, get a managed dedicated server, get an actual reseller account with someone? For those who have been in my shoes, which of the three options is the preferred one in your opinion? Could you give me recommendations on reliable companies to use? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions! Jennifer

Jennifer, Welcome to WHT! minimum 80 gb disk space minimum 1000 gb bandwidth I am not sure that you are at a point just yet where you actually need that much space and BW. I would suggest starting out with a reseller account and then moving in teh dedicated direction later on. Although if it is your main goal and you already have it in your budget, You should get a managed server so that you have a good team behind you incase something goes wrong. Good Luck!

1000GB with 80GB is way over the reseller account level. If that's what you need (i.e. use), then a dedicated is definitely the way to go. You might even need more than one. Managing a server is not something you learn over a one week period. That's why I would leave server management to the professionals: either rent a server admin or get a managed dedicated. Sure, in the mean time, nothing really stops you from learning how to manage a server. It's arguably a very low budget if you plan to actually push 1000GB per month. Add server management to the mix and the picture is definitely not rosy. Last edited by ldcdc; 01-27-2005 at 01:05 PM.

Wow thats quite a requirement for a reseller account. Take the advice above and contact a good managed dedicated company. However paying for the managed bit will mean your budget will need to be bigger for sure. You will need a pretty expensive server also, with that amount of resource use you would be looking at getting hardware SCSI etc which will add to the prices. Maybe even more than one server but i guess that depends on exactly what these websites are doing. You could do a search here for Windows managed dedicateds etc and see what comes up or use the host search.
