CWSHOSTING.net 3-month (plus) Review

Posted by roulade, 12-16-2004, 01:47 AM
3-month review of CWShosting.net, actually a little more than 3 months but what the heck? A little background info first - I actually signed on to the now-out of business WOhostings for a reseller plan. It was $10/mo for 10GB of space & 20GB of bandwidth. About 2-3 weeks into my plan, I had lots of problems with the company being unable to provide me with Fantastico etc. After that, I received a notice that WOhostings was being bought over by CWShosting. Initially, I was skeptical of CWS for a number of reasons. I'd learnt through foraging in this forum to run checks on companies and be wary of those that had been in business for less than 1 year. The last I checked, one year for CWS isn't here yet. Also, due to bad experience, I'm not a certain fan of mergers. Bad thing for me, in my opinion. However, Doug (aka CompleteSSL aka CWS' owner) PM-ed me when I started my complaints of the poor WO service around the time the merge was announced. One important thing that struck me was the quick response time he had to my queries (even though I'm in a completely different time zone), and how he allayed my fears about merging hosts. He promised Fantastico (which was my main gripe with WO), and that as a customer of WO, I would still be able to keep my plan, price-locked, when the move to CWS occured. Even with the initial payment (in order to set up a new account on WO asap), he offered me two options, seeing that my current plan with WO was ending. Either I pay for the next month of hosting a few days early, or he refunds me the money immediately after payment has gone through. I chose the first option, because I wasn't really ready to move myself and my hostees to another host again. Throughout the next 3 months of hosting, I've found the service at CWS to be exemplary. Doug communicated with me via PM on this board, although eventually we moved communications to the CWS Helpdesk. I had problems with transferring all my files to the new server (SQL databases not working properly etc) and all my queries were answered quickly (not more than 2 hours) and the files were transferred as soon as my ticket reached the support staff. When I wanted to transfer another domain over to the reseller account at CWS, I contacted Doug about it, and he gamely helped me with it. The only problem with that transfer was that I gave him the wrong username and password, but he was patient when he mailed back with the problem. I didn't even have to do anything about the transfer, all my files were moved smoothly over. Last month, I needed to upgrade my plan because I needed more space and bandwidth. When I contacted Doug, I was presented with an option to do a 100% upgrade from my original WO plan - that means $20/mo for 20GB of space and 40GB of bandwidth. In the end, I was a little late with payment (a day or two), but Doug never hurried me for payment. (I know of hosts which hurry their clients or are impatient when payment is 1-2 days late, so I was grateful CWS isn't like that) So, my main point here, is that although I didn't expect to last this long with CWS, and because I didn't expect spectacular customer service for the price I was paying, CWS really surpassed all expectations that I had. Most of my trouble tickets were replied to in a max of 2 hours; if they took more than 10 hours to resolve it was because I was late in replying to them. If this quick response and friendly service continues, I don't see why I should be moving away from CWS anytime soon

Sounds like you have a good business partnership here. I hope that this high level of service continues for you and that you will keep us updated as to their ongoing performance. Good, honest feedback is always appreciated. Especially when it is a good report.

I'm glad that CWS has treated you better than our old service history with you as a client. One funny thing about the matter of Fantastico - we actually got this installed on all of our servers three days after we sold 10% of our client base. As I said, I am really happy that they have treated you well, and I am really glad that you have found a host to stick with. All the best for the future..

I would just like to add, last night I signed up to one of the CWShosting packages. Everything was as promised, the welcome email, and then my cpanel details came through on time. The main thing is, I made an error in signing in the first place. I openly admit to that. We are moving home so the reseller plan is on hold for a few weeks. I asked CWShosting to cancel my account, and within ten minutes my money was refunded and a confirmation email was recieved. So all credit to CWShosting, I was very impressed with that. Thankyou.

Thanks roulade for kind review, and I'm really glad to hear that you're happy with your web hosting since the transition. maritimesbob - good luck with your move. Moving is never fun. We moved into a new house last year, and what a nightmare that was. You don't realize how much stuff you have until you have to move it all.
