u2mike 1 month review

Posted by ticky, 12-15-2004, 01:40 AM
I signed up for a reseller account with u2mike.com a month ago and so far my experience with him has been amazing! I'll break down the review into sections: Price: Very competitive pricing and he also gives out killer deals! I got a good deal from him through the advertising forums. Actually looking back at the quality of service I got this month, I'd say he's priced a bit low. Support: Amazing! I've been with 3 different hosts so far and u2mike has provided the best support out of all of them. Mike is very knowledgable and has solved all my problem so far. I'm a very picky customer and pretty much contact him at least twice a day with questions. He really is 24/7 on call. Just last week the server was was very slow at 5am in the morning. I opened a ticket and received a reply within 10 minutes and the problem was fixed! All my tickets has been responded to in less than an hour. Helpful, kind and on demand... that's how I would sum up his support. Server speeds/connection: On general its been fast however there are times when the server would slow down to a crawl at very late hours of the night. I talked with mike and find out it was because he does local backups then. He said he would change the way the server backs things up to solve this problem. Disadvantages: All hosts must have good and bad things. Only thing that I had an issue with at the beginning was that he only offered DirectAdmin. I used Cpanel before and was very very reluctant to switch over. Now that I did, I'm very glad! Although I'm still a bit held back since most customers demand for cpanel. The company is still very young (first year in business) but from what I've seen so far, it will be very successful! Overall rating: 8/10. This review is based on being a client. I am opening up my webhosting business within the next two weeks! I shall update this review as a reseller later on. Hope this helps for anyone considering u2mike, or looking for a new webhost. Two thumbs up.

good review, thanks for the info. More details on directadmin compared to cpanel would be interesting. By reading between the lines it seems you prefer that now?

I like DirectAdmin much better. Its more user friendly and looks better than cpanel! Functionality it has everything that I need. I know Cpanel offers more but some of the functions in Cpanel I don't touch at all. I think its a much better control panel but the downside is that most of the marketshare is with Cpanel. I had to let go of a few potential clients because they wouldn't want to convert over. Also the conversion process from cpanel to directadmin is not flawless/turnkey. There is a script that can convert cpanel backups to directadmin but it takes a lot more than that to have a successful conversion. Example: passworded (htaccess) directories needed to be reset because the location of .htpasswds were different. It was a pain locating all of the protected files and changing them. My target market isn't WHT members but locals whom most probably haven't had webhosting before. So I would introduce them to DirectAdmin no problem. Hope this helps.

While I cant offer as comprehensive a review, I can say that u2mike.com has been an excellent host for me for the past week. He is hosted in Sagonet's datacenter, and his hosting seems excellent. Also he has been quickly replying to my support requests.

There seems to be some server problems....a traceroute shows problems at one of Sagonets routers for me...since it seems to time out strangly. I think he was saying he might fail some sort of class due to how he cant access his webpage?

Sagonet seems to be having some problems I guess. But my websites are all operational right now. u2mike put up an announcement on the discussion board of his website. Majority of downtime caused by datacenter... which was just 10 minutes. Hope this helps.
