Avoid dot5hosting!!

Posted by webcons77, 04-02-2004, 06:47 PM
After a year with them I finally moved on when they caused all of my sites to go down for 4 days without any warning! They were moving people to different servers but didn't see fit to give any warning that they were going to do this!! This wasn't the first problem that I had with them, they have done similar things in the past and have let server's degrade to the point of extremely slow responses when trying to access your site. Most of the links from their main site which should be to information for contacting them results in an error page. This has been the case for the last 4 days!

Sorry to hear what you're going through. Quite a few people from dot5 came with horror stories lately. Good luck with your new host!

Posted by webcons77, 04-02-2004, 07:57 PM
It's getting uglier.... I asked their tech how to cancel my account and he gave me an email to send in my request. The email got bounced! I don't see how they can possibly continue on being a business with the way that they have been treating their customer's!

Sorry to hear your troubles. There seems to be a few negative Dot 5 threads lately. Try contacting their Billing team about cancelling your account. I'm sure they should be able to assist you. Also, try searching their website, as they might have on it the procedure in cancelling an account. Good luck.

Really? I canceled my account simply by doing a Live Chat and asking the tech to cancel my account, gave him username and password and he did it on the spot within a few minutes.

It comes as a shock to hear about all of your troubles. Lately Dot5 has been getting a lot of negative feedbacks, due to their servers being down. Glad all of you moved on though.

Moved to LunarPages and happy as Larry. However this is not to say LunarPages will go bad in two years time. Two years ago when I moved from HostSave everyone was raving on about Dot5. At least next time, at the first sign of trouble, I'll be ready, F**K YOU ALL!!!

Posted by Aussie Bob, 04-03-2004, 03:33 AM
Lunar pages are a professional company run by adults, and not run by kids, balancing schoolwork and their hosting business, like dot5 was. I'm sure you'll be looked after by the good folks at Lunar pages.

Tell me is that *really* Chris Phillips on the second last page? Surely not .. oh dear http://www.highbury.ac.uk/pdf/public...20Magazine.pdf

That's him!

Lately?! Dot5 have never really done well here for reviews - excepting for those faked testimonials they had the hosting forum flooded with about 15 months ago.

Posted by freak, 04-04-2004, 06:21 AM
I've heard so many bad reviews about dot5 that I feel sick...

Posted by Shoey, 04-04-2004, 11:55 AM
dot5 is not a professional company.

Dot5hosting I believe operates from England. Why don't we keep our money within our country?

Posted by richy, 04-04-2004, 04:23 PM
Nice attitude, Im sure youll make lots of friends internationally like that. Its people like you that make people wary of alliances.

Posted by cywkevin, 04-04-2004, 06:12 PM
Someone has never heard of the balance of trade and a flexible exchange rate. When your dollar value depreciates people buy from you and then eventually your dollar value appreciates(increases) and you buy from them. It all has to do with the supply of your currency in the international market.

Hehehe, you just got a latino friend here.... By the way, that was sarcasm

then maybe us brits should stop hosting in the US? and what's with the "our country" - big assumption made the world does not revolve around the US

Posted by cywkevin, 04-05-2004, 06:51 PM
That is true but a lot of the exchange rates originated around the us dollar.

1.00 USD United States Dollars = 0.543704 GBP United Kingdom Pounds 1 USD = 0.543704 GBP 1 GBP = 1.83924 USD How would you like it if I started targeting hosting business in the UK and offered packages for $1US DOLLAR A MONTH??? You would be out of business wouldn't you. Or if China started offering hosting to the US market for say 0.25c a month. Do your math and than start talking to me about international trade.

Take a look at the info on their Dataceter page on their website, looks copy and pasted to me (from IPOWERWEB's website): TRADING IN THE US: For the US economy to function correctly you do need to spend money outsite the US! If you keep getting money flowing into the US you will have a trade surplus and inflation will skyrocket. Sometimes you got to realize that there is more in the world than just the US, it is a world economy. If the US ceased trading it would go into a major downfall, the US far out-consumes all its resources and relies on imports from other countries (especially Oil!).

My mistake with the IPOWERWEB, it thought they only provided web hosting.

Why don't we keep our money within our country? << I think this poster needs to grow up a little, or perhaps find a forum suitable for such an infantile attitude.

What difference does it make whether a company is in the UK, Amsterdam or US? If a UK company can keep their servers up better than a US company, they have my business. And UK/European datacenters are nothing to scoff at. They are very state of the art. As everyone else has said, the world doesnt revolve around the US, and I think that comment was a slap in the face to the UK providers here who do a good job (Iracks for example).

Posted by richy, 04-07-2004, 05:32 PM
Those of us that went to school know that if you dont buy outside your country, and sell products to other companies a trade surplus will send your currency value through the roof and make any exports cost prohibitive and imports incredibly cheap. Your currency is currently worth less then it was a year ago because your government has stopped supporting the currency in order to let it fall in value to boost internal investment (i.e. imports get more expensive so US firms own products are bought in preference to foreign products) and so that you have a stronger export market, eventually it will all balance out again as it is somewhat self limiting. Such idiotic xenophobia as expressed on the other page is indicative of people that simply havent got a clue about how the world works. Sure if you want to sell hosting in the uk for a dollar then go for it. In that sense its a free world, you might even get some customers out of it. No one is stopping you just as no one is stopping us brits buying your dirt cheap dedicated servers. Thats the joy of being able to pick and choose, but we do so out of financial motivation rather then any pathetic immature xenophobic ravings. People like yourself are a disgrace to humanity and we can but hope you dont procreate and spread the stupid gene. Ps have you any idea how little your trailer is worth in our fine currency

Seems to me that you guys (especially the Brits) feel threatened. Why??? And what makes you the authority to know more about the world and how it works than me? Aren't I entitled to my own opinion? And please to not call anyone's comments idiotic as if you knew any better or were mature yourself you would refrain yourself from insulting people. You can disagree with me but you can not impose your opinions or knowledge upon me. What the F**K kind of rubish is this! What the hell makes you think that I did not go to school you moron! I think your screen name describes you just perfect. richy The Original Caveman LMAO Last edited by Hostwire.com; 04-08-2004 at 07:19 PM.

On another note. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HOSTING!!! AND WHY IN THIS SCREWED UP EARTH WHOULD I PUT MY SERVER IN THE UK!!! On the other hand you Brits should host in the States as you are getting more bang for your buck and more reliability. We don't see no value in hosting in the UK. You people are nuts and are missing the point I was trying to make.

As a neutral observer and often quiet informant here I'd like to say you have all demonstrated good and bad points. Now what's the issue here. Did you really need to use a cuss word as there are hundreds of less verbally demeaning words than that you could have used. Your lack of vocabulary suggests you have gone to school but have not gone through college yet. As many people have mentioned the world does not involve around the United States but we do have a lot of influence in the global economy. The US is a debtor nation because we import more than any other country. We also export a lot of stuff. but our imports exceed our exports so we constantly have a trade deficit. To say the world doen't evolve around the US is correct but we do set the trends for alot of things.

Well, yes, that's a good point. Now, first, I'm not a brit, and I'm offended. Second, isn't here a forums TOS? Why do you allow a xenophobic come and insult people this way? You've said the brits can't "impose their knowledge" upon you, but you've not demonstrated any knowledge in response, just an acumulation of offenses. Presumption of ignorance and xenophoby is not a thing to be pride. Maybe you may research things and do your homework before to reply. BTW, I bet that the TOS of this site must be reinforced in this case, so we may stay in focus without this kind of nasty distractions. It would be a bad thing that somebody would have to moderate this forums. From time to time somebody appears trying to pull in that direction. Tsk, tsk! BTW, Hostwire, are you sure you're talking about hosting? Your initial comment has a very wide scope. I'm not pretty sure it is about hosting, but economy. The responses of the rest of the people seems to realize about this fact. Maybe you may pay some attention. Since your replies hasn't any contribution on this aspect, I bet you may learn at least any thing by just opening a little bit your ears... or, er... your eyes, since we're reading. I'm learning a ton of things here, don't may you? Maybe this is a good chance to open some horizons and grow. Sorry for my vile English. Ahhh, I'm learning too! You said you have been with them for a year; were they like this before? 4 days of no service would sent anyone packing.

I would like to point you are both responding to a 4 month old thread that I think had a good death before, lets leave it there.
