how reseller program works?

Posted by feelexit, 07-06-2004, 05:42 PM
I want to start my own web host business. Since i dont have alot money to invest. I guess its better to start from becoming a reseller. heres my question: I want to know how reseller program works. http://www.avidnewmedia.com reselling solution gives you Disk Space (MB) 2500 Data Transfer (GB/ month) 25 I just use it as an example. see, if i have 10 customers, how can i divide the space, and assign to them. I guess theres some kinda software we can use to do that. i guess its cpanel , correct me if i am wrong. and customer A only bought 50 mb, and 1 gig data tranfer. After he reachs the limitation. Do we just stop the user visiting his site? or send him a hugh bill at the end of the month. and how can each customer get its own cgi-bin, php environment. database? do i need to worry about those stuff or my reselling company gonna take care of them. "AvidNewMedia will handle the server. You handle the sales, customer support and billing. It's your own space, so charge as much or as little as you like." my own space, does that mean i have the whole server, or i share with somebody else. one more question. is it usual that i handle the cstomer support. i thought the company is supposed to do that. All i need to worry about is billing and marketing. my questions maybe looks stupid and funny. I m sorry I am a newbie , really want to start web hosting biz. thanks for your help.

When you signup for a reseller program you usually have an administrative control panel that can create web hosting accounts. From the control panel you can set how much space each user has and things like that. Once the user is created they have their own control panel where they can create databases and upload files. Depending on your web hosting company your control panel can be privately branded or may have your host's brand. Most hosts do not supply support to end users because then that would let the customer find out who is hosting you. With a reseller account you usually share space on a server. If you have a dedicated server you will be the only person on that server. Last edited by zinet; 07-06-2004 at 06:09 PM.

Reseller hosting packages usually means you get a disk space and bandwidth that you can divide using a web control panel. You need to do, billing, marketing, manage your site, support your customers . I guess you share the server with other resellers (each with his own space and panel ofcourse) Best regards, Gil.

ok i'll try answering that for! i'm a newbie too but this is how i see it. first you declare a charge for users going over thier assigned quota! ie $1 per gig bandwith (just check wat others charge) if they go over by a bit then u can just forget it and just let them know by email but not charge them. its all about customer service. 1 happy customer will bring you 2 more(thats just my theory)

one more question> some hosting companies provide free backup services. as a reseller, do we have to do that? or user got to backup hteir own stuff. or our parent company gonna do that.. how you gonna deal with that , if one of your clients ask you that>?

feelexit, most companies provide a backup feature, however, its recommended that you do your own backups of client files. You can setup a cron to backup all of your clients files nightly and then dump the backup weekly (for example).

You can set WHM and cPanel up so that if they go over their bandwidth allowance it will "suspend" their account meaning that no one can view their website any more.
