my server is down and there is no support from PhotonVPS

Posted by bgsebiosjr, 12-10-2009, 09:09 AM
I have a problem my server was down almost 8hrs and no support from PhotonVPS. my httpd and other servces was down except ssh. I am very disappointed with them about support, they dont really support you if you dont have a managed services contract with them, even to restart my server from vps node. anybody can help me here?

etc/init.d/httpd start doesn't start your webserver? Paste the output of ps auxww lets see what's going, perhaps something is stalling the daemons.

it can't be, and now i can login the su- user after root password entered, its like nothing to do, the cursor going down below the command prompt and there is nothing to do. this is should part in vps node provider to fix it.

Sounds like the hardware node is having issues/under heavy load, not much you can do but wait.

yes, because i noticed that they are changing the network route.

If you can login via SSH do a ps aux and netstat -tulnap and post the results in here. Also, what is the current load?

HI You need to wait until they respond you if your ssh is up you can do some thing but even without it and your trace route seems to also a problem it is really a hard time if you have direct contact number try to contact them and checkout what is the issue with server.

Your VPS is corrupted and we have been trying to recover your problem. It appears you have install quite alot of packages with cPanel that are not supported. Example - postfix, mail scanner, exim are all conflicting with each other. Secondly your VPS is corrupted to the point where we are not able to assign you an IP to connect remotely. We'll need to reload this machine, please let us know how you want to proceed via ticket. There were no route changes, node problems, etc.. on this network otherwise you will see a flood of complaints.

So when you make an action with this MR. Jim, i always encoutnered deferent support always asking redundant questions, aksing what is your ip, user, ping the server, tracert. Then you always me treating like nothing or abandon me, becuase i dont have a managed services contract to you? its almost 24hrs, YOU CAN'T FEEL THIS MR JIM, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT A AFFECTED THIS KIND OF RISKS. YOU KNOW THAT I AM NOW IN CRITICAL MODE. PLEASE MAKE AN ACTION NOW WHAT IS THE GOOD RESOLUTION AND I NEED MY SERVER TO UP NOW. Last edited by bgsebiosjr; 12-10-2009 at 07:30 PM.

I see the replies were done multiple times to you on various occasion. We brought the VPS online and which later went back offline due to corruption in your VPS. In fact you opened various tickets where you had multiple responses by several technicians. We are not responsible for services where you made customization to. Please note you are semi-managed and we will assist you with what we can. If you require a full solution where someone does round the clock management on your VPS you will need to find a provider that does FULLY managed services. For faster resolution you can always request a rebuild, restart, reload. But software application / OS that were tampered and require troubleshooting this will take some time. This is how all host will function since troubleshooting corrupted OS is not an easy task.

the server is corrupted.

Uhhh. this guy is saying mail scanner, and exim are not supported by cpanel? And mail scanner and exim conflict with each other? The only package not native to cpanel is postfix, but I don't see how installing that would keep httpd from starting, let alone corrupt a whole VPS. If postfix is causing that much trouble I think uninstalling it would fix a lot of that.

I was install the clamav, mailscanner from configserver.com and the mod_security is came from gootroot.com.

No, Jim gave just one example: postfix, mail scanner, exim are all conflicting with each other Read the words "conflicting with each other". From the thread and the posts, it seems that the OP does not know how to handle a server and now blaming the provider for his own mistakes.

Posted by jalapeno55, 12-11-2009, 12:06 PM
Well the host isn't giving an specifics either. Plus I don't see how postfix could corrupt and entire server. It would break email, but shouldn't affect anything else.

Is it mandatory for a host to give all the details on a public forum. Also what they mentioned was one example not all the issues. Even OP has mentioned server is corrupted, and he himself is responsible for that as he is the one who is installing and configuring components on the server. Provider has mentioned that re-provisioning is the fastest solution.

I was solve the problem yesterday, cpanel support give a solutions and he told me to contact my hosting provider to solve the entrire server. fsck reboot in this morming i am checking again the server, but i found out the server load are so high again. WHY? NOW I CAN'T ACCESS AGAIN THE SERVER. Last edited by bgsebiosjr; 12-11-2009 at 07:30 PM.

There's reasons why I am against VPS. This thread is a perfect example.

Posted by Profuse-Jimmy, 12-11-2009, 07:55 PM
Your VPS ran out of memory again and was swapping. There could be a bad php script running or a loop but this has nothing to do with our node. We have 10 VPS on this node and no one has filed a complaint.

No wonder you get what you pay for. And really OP should get him/herself a fully managed service instead of semi or unmanaged server.

Posted by bgsebiosjr, 12-11-2009, 08:10 PM
SEE WHAT KIND OF PROVIDER IS THIS? THATS MONEY MAKERS, ONLY I WANT IS TO SOLVE THE ISSUES. The load drop so I am no longer able to see what happen. You are semi-managed and your not our only client. We have to give other client support as they are needed. If you require fully managed you will need to purchase an hourly rate of our technician or wait in queue for other tasks to be completed. If this is not worthy of your solution please find another provider that will suit your need. Last edited by bgsebiosjr; 12-11-2009 at 08:15 PM.

LOL, they seriously said that? And I love how they are going from the server has a totally corrupt OS to you are out out Ram and using swap space. Uhhhh......those are like complete opposites.

Posted by Profuse-Jimmy, 12-12-2009, 06:30 AM
OP has many issues; the initial issue was the OS was corrupted please read the thread FULLY before posting. Secondly we have given over 12+ man hours for this client where we have thousands of VPS to attend to. We simply can not give him a fully manage solution at the price he is paying. Level 3 technicians are busy with a variety of other tasks and we do give him the fix just merely he is set at lower priority. Please note all his issues ARE resolved but they will creep back due to modification the client makes. Examples are firewalls, installing postfix + exim, installing mod_security, mail scanners. The second issue he has is MEMORY where his load has spiked there was indications where he ran out of memory because there were 500MB in his swap allocation however we were unable to catch this incident since the issue has resolved itself. In the 6 month period of this client he has opened 166 tickets. That is literally almost one ticket a day. Which all of his issues were resolved. We have asked the client to find a MANAGED solution multiple times and if he wishes to use our services he will need to understand our priorities are keeping VPS online, accessible, and then we will assist with any software requirements anyone needs.

No, they are not opposites, but rather different points in time.

I would agree with PhotonVPS if what "PhotonVPS-Jim" said is true. The client will get for what he is paying for. If he want the hosting providers to look into his issue and solve it for him, he should opt for their managed services.

166 tickets in 6 months ?? You must have a staff dedicated to him.

Posted by starline, 12-12-2009, 01:48 PM
i agree. the op should better get fully managed vps hosting

Posted by jalapeno55, 12-12-2009, 02:01 PM
Looks like the OP has been suspended from WHT.
