Hi, i'm trying to import a database on to my website so that the forums work again. Just moved host. I'm having issues though, when ever i import the database i recive the error " Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes " I have tried to change the "max_allowed_packet=128" in the my.cnf Why is it not working? http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...phpmyadmin.png http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/html33/ssh.png Having got this error i googled it and was told to change this setting. I did, and restarted apcahe httpd and i have also restarted the entire server http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...l33/WINscp.png Help please!

Alright, so i've tried a few more things yet not helped... I used this command in shell [ssh] "mysql --set-variable=max_allowed_packet=128M" And then restared mysql using this command "service mysql restart" http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../sshchange.png http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...33/restart.png http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...yadminsize.png As you can see there, the size still has not changed... Why!?!!!

A friend told me to run this command "nano /etc/my.cnf" after rebooting the server so i did. This is what i got http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/html33/nano.png Somone tell me, it's clearly set there... But it's not actually running. Do i need to activate my.cnf some where? I changed lot's of memory settings in WHM and they have became active. And running, however the options i have changed in WHM are not set in my.cnf so i'm not sure if WHM generates another file some where and uses that, or ... it's just very clever Last edited by Html33; 10-19-2009 at 06:15 PM.

Edit your /etc/my.cnf file and replace your line with the following max_allowed_packet = 2097152 Save the file and restart the mysql service: /etc/init.d/mysql restart

Should it be max_allowed_packet = 2097152 max_allowed_packet=2097152 or?... I have set it too " max_allowed_packet = 2097152" And i still have the same issue. I done it using the "nano /etc/my.cnf" command. And saved it.

Host has just responded to me asking me to lift it this what they said Hello, I have lifted the MySQL packet limit. Please check to see if the issue is resolved. It's still the same! And when converting kilobtyes to MB it's still 1MB !!!! Dammn, How hard is it to change a setting for a Database import.

Just put M after the value instead this should do Restart mysql afterwards. (16M = 16MB, change to whatever you need.)

just curious - how are you importing the DB? via command line or thru phpmyadmin?

Via both. If you look at the images provided it shows me trying to import via Phpmyadmin and SSH
