rpm -e rar

it shouldn't install if your missing a lib... unless you forced it.. type 'history' and paste what you did... might be able to help you and get the package working for you....

Also it would be best if you did a installation of packages using a package manager such as YUM. YUM not only installs the software/package but it also resolves dependencies.

Why would you want to force the uinstall of TAR?

Posted by cheapsb, 10-17-2009, 03:08 PM

Since you are using CentOS Linux, I suggest you use YUM to install packages, remove packages and update them. It will also take care of Dependencies for you and add any other packages that are required, when you install something new. Question: Why do you have 2 versions of the Kernel installed?

I'm not sure why a couple of people have given instructions to remove tar instead of rar, and forcefully remove a package and some system critical dependancies... First of all check that rar is installed: rpm -qa | grep rar If there is nothing there, then the rar package is not installed on your system. If you do get a result, here is how to remove it. Lets say the result you get is "rar-1.0" without the quotes. Use rpm -e rar-1.0 --nodeps to remove the rar package without touching anything else.

thats kinda odd. running centos? 64bit? rpm -qa| grep -w 'tar\|rar\|zip' try running that... should spit out what you have installed... not sure why its wants to rename cpio...
