Hello, I want to setup a server in my company . I bought a rack mount server (asus RS162-E4/RX4) with another needed hardware (rack , ups and etc...) Now I want to setup this server, I can assemble the server with reading the server manual,in fact my question is how can I setup the OS ? I want to install Linux, which Linux you suggested ? how can I configure the Linux ? I manage the servers before, but all of servers which I managed before was ready and I bought from data centers so I don't know how can I install the OS and configure that, anybody can help me? is there any manual to setup OS step by step ?

I suggest CentOS or any beginner O/S for you. Just load up google and search for 'howto install centos' or something similiar. theres also www.centos.org. you can find install info/help there and other vendor sites aswell. good luck.

Installing CentOS is quite easy just boot from the CentOS CD, select the desired components and let it finish. Before that read http://www.ispconfig.org/documentation.htm

Your bios will come set up such that it will automatically look for an iso image on your optical drive before trying to boot from disk, so doing a bare-metal install will be simple. Just follow the tui prompts and choose sensible options or defaults unless you know what you're doing or have special needs. If you're looking for a distro to learn on and grow with I'd recommend FreeBSD or Debian. If you're just looking to get a control panel installed try CentOS.

Yes, you can install CentOS in graphical mode and can access it remotely using VNC. Once you install those and not sure how to configure VNC, just send me a PM.

Most Linux install now uses some form of graphical interface but installing KDE (X11) on a server is not really a good idea - its bloated, resource hog, among other things. If you need something that will help you administer you should look into opensuse and yast. Of course you can alway get one of those panel's installed or webmin.
