Moving From one server to another...

Posted by Waterlogged, 10-20-2003, 06:11 PM
Ok I am moving my entire operation from one host to another my concerns are moving my clients. is there any some what simplified way of doing it or not? My clients almost all have SQL databases. The ones I am worried about are running CMSs like Xoops and Post nuke. Any help/suggestions are much appreciated!

Is this a cPanel/WHM server? If so, you should have the ability in WHM to transfer the accounts from the old to the new server.

It's always going to be a bit of fun! If both hosts allow you access to 'cpanel copy site form one server to another' it will be easy.. otherwise... get a good ftp client, lots of coffee and settle down for a few days

lol the nice thing is I havnt really established myself as a host so I dont have to many clients to worry bout but I cant access the cpanel copy feature other than the backup and restore which as he said would take several large cups of coffee

Well I will take it that you don't have the WHM Copy Account feature. Might as well go ahead and get the coffee bud.

It sounds like you are using Cpanel/WHM though right? If so buy your new host a small cup of coffee and they should be able to handle the account transfer for you with very little trouble. If your losing host would be so kind as to edit a DNS entry for you, then your downtime could be limited to the actual time it takes to transfer the accounts.
