What's the perfect reseller account?

Posted by uneedawebsit, 06-02-2003, 10:48 AM
My company has not got into resellers accounts because we looked at some of the offering out there and couldn't understand how some of these companies make a profit and provide any kind of service. Unlimited everything for $10 a month doesn't make any sense to me. What I would like some feedback from you on is what would constitute a good reseller account, in terms of a balance of resoruces, features and value? This isn't a solicitation for customers because we aren't in that part of the market yet. It is a serious solicitation of feedback from the people most likely to know the answers. Thanks in advance for your replies and help. Mark

To form your reseller packages its important to understand that your reseller needs to remain competative and maintain their own margin. So your pricing for resellers will be less in a per/GB ratio than shared hosting - but you can sell it in larger bulk and provide less support than say 10 shared packages. Take your own existing packages and multiply them a few times, add a "bulk discount" to that price and you should have yourself a reseller plan. Remember providing IP's prices a little more but you save in areas such as transaction prices (less transactions for same amount of space). Thats just breaking the ice on howto think about your reseller plans. Its important you get the package setup right aswell, it can be a little more technical than normal shared hosting as you have to provide a good element of transparency and priority support.

First identify what your market actually is (What would be best for you to target). Basing their demographics with available resources you should be able to derive a rough draft of plans. Focus who your customers are (Local, regional, National, Worldwide, Family, Friends). Consider service levels based on their needs. Factor in the amount of hours (Work Hours) you would need to support the given demographic into the market you have. Just finding your market is the first step, that you ask these it means you haven't identified your "Target Market" There is a reseller market, finding your customers "Easily" is part of making money.
