CentOS yum fail

Posted by ttgt, 04-12-2009, 03:04 AM
cpanel tech staff say my server --------------- in a broken state halfway upgraded from centos 4 to centos 5. You'll need to either complete the update to centos 5 or revert to centos 4. Easyapache and some other cPanel functions require that yum be working, but "yum update" on your server currently fails due to the mix of centos 4 and 5 rpm's you have installed --------------- i want to ask how can i fix the issue? because i run "yum update",it fail. thanx

If the upgrade has gone awry then the simplest option is a reload. Obviously if your server is in production then you will have to manually remove and install the appropriate RPM's.

What is the result of "yum update" at the command line ? Maybe by fixing minor issues, you can complete the upgrade to CentOS 5. cPanel update (upcp) should then be able to proceed.

Reloads are unnecessary. http://hostingrealm.com/tutorials/in...yum-on-centos/ Try running that, it should fix yum.

I've seen many systems crash by people arbitrarily running commands to try to fix things. This is not something that should be done by someone unless they are proficient in doing so. If you never worked with yum or rpm's before, you should not try this. Either way, you should make remote backups first anyway just in case.
