Identify this server

Guys, I want to know what you can say about this server. I was told that it is Dual Opteron and I will have 4 cores on it. What I can see from SSH, it only shows 2. ? Is this really a Dual Opteron (2 cores each CPU = 4 cores total)?

run this : dmesg | grep microcode how many cpus the kernel register on boot? 2 = 1 physical 4 = 2 physical etc... what's your uname -r output? which linux distro ?

Yes, that is a "dual opeteron", it has 2 opteron processors in it. The 248 is a single core cpu. I am pretty sure there are no dual core 248's. A link to one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103554 Sounds like time for some clarification on what you were supposed to get.

ran dmesg | grep microcode but nothing happened? uname -r = 2.6.18-92.el5 linux: CentOS 5.x So is this mean I have total of 4 cores? Yes, I'm planning to do exactly that but first need to know how many cores does this server has? I was been told that it has 2 cores per CPU. Is this correct?

There are no dual core 240's, the 275 opterons (which you do not have) are dual core. Basically you have what you can see, 2 physical cpus with 1 core each so a total of 2.

Yes, true. I just checked and did not find any 248 or 250 cpu with dual cores. Time for explanation.

Look back at what they told you. It is possible they simply said dual opteron and nothing else, though if they said 4 cores...sounds like they gave you the wrong box.

Nope, I check my MSN log and they say that the server will be dual opteron with 2 cores each CPU and totaling to 4 cores per server. I do have rights to ask them to upgrade my server to the specs as was promised before right?

Yes they should clarify on this. Your server doesn't seem to be of 4 cores.

You were told you would get something, you got another. What do you think They call it bait and switch. In all honesty they probably just accidentally gave you the wrong server but you would be stupid not to ask them about it!
