Hit the big "Search" button up the top right of this page, then type their company name in as the keyword and click "Perform Search". You can get directly to the search page by visiting: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php

Hi guys. I gather your also in the UK? I was actually considering donhost as a reseller and now I've found this thread. Just wondering what was your experience with them? And who are you using now? Rob

Posted by Axel Teflon, 08-11-2002, 06:15 PM
Hey dodgeviper, to be honest with you I doubt you'd fine a good UK reseller. If you do which is value for money lemme know! Alot of UK hosting is costly compared to USA and the best thing to do is sign up at paypal and purchase hosting with an american host. Its the better thing to do if you want better value for your money, and maybe even support and reliablity.

Posted by Dnslinux, 08-11-2002, 06:35 PM
I would (and im sure some others would to) have to disagree with you on that one. Its fair comment that the US costs are cheaper then within the UK and im pretty sure it will always be like that. I have had personal experience with both Fasthosts (1st) and Donhosts (2nd) and I would not recommend either one of them. Out of the 2, Donhost was better, but since then, we got our own dedicated servers and moved all our clients over. So in answer to your question, yes, we are in the UK (with US based servers) and we are using ourselves after having a negative experience with other UK based resellers.

Hi! I have an Unix reseller account with Donhost and I am very surprised reading this thread. Since the day we signed on with them (8 months ago) all is OK. Their net is solid as a rock, their control panel is very easy and functional, their support is very fast and kind and our customers are very happy. Are we sure we're talking about the same companies?!

Posted by zipcode, 08-12-2002, 10:02 AM
You mean donhost.co.uk, then yes.

Posted by Shazan, 08-12-2002, 11:32 AM
Yes, I mean donhost.co.uk.

At the end of the day, its seems that most hosting companies will have satified/ unsatified clients. "Seems" like Fatshosts/ Donhost have more unsatified.

Thought you'd like to see this. I asked donhost about the comments here and I got the following reply. This may be an automated response. With regards to our policy and the removal of accounts we do have quite a strict AUP that we do regularly enforce though the removal of accounts them selves is very rare, there are three main things that we will remove sites for these are Pornography, Sites that promote Hacking/cracking (being the victims of numerous hacking attempts and DDos attacks we are not keen on people who promote this activity) and warez. For anything else what we have is a bot that monitors the logs and produces a daily report, if there is a commercial program or the odd nudie picture etc that's on there we simply remove the offending file and email the reseller detailing the action that's been taken. All in all though we rarely get problems though due to the nature of the bulk hosting we provide we are always going to get one or two end users who abuse our systems, the policy is simply there to keep our servers running fast and reliable so the majority of our users get the best hosting experience possible. You can view our AUP here http://www.donhost.co.uk/support/doc...acceptable_use

I can confirm that this is their policy and I perfectly agree with it. I think that a reseller should be responsible for his customers and should make them respect this policy. We're doing this and we haven't got any problems. If you tollerate SPAM, pornography and warez you should consider another host, but we don't tollerate these practises too so for us Donhost is the best. They promptly informed us when one of our custerms broke their policy and they didn't take any decisions without our confirmation. This is my very good experience with Donhost.

Hi Shazan, Pleased to hear you are happy with the Donhost service, seems like they may have changed things around. We used to have a Donhost reseller plan when we started out and I can confirm they used to delete accounts and the only way you would find out was when a customer emailed you asking where his/her web site was. Good service? I don't think so but hey, that was a long time ago

Posted by mk123, 08-13-2002, 05:33 AM
good service from Donhost... sorry thats out of question!! i'm still Donhost reseller... stuck with the annual plan... u can expect all wierdo and hostile answers from the bunch sitting out there(support). Their CP is of good stone-age quality! Can you imagine a cart with round rock wheels? Want to get the feeling? Just after driving ur nice car (CPanel,H-Sphre,plesk etc) , join Donhost to get the experience of lifetime. Their FTP connection keeps breaking... (but my customers don't have any problem with FTP with other 5 reselling hosts i have with various other providers) Donhost take care of ur health too.. CHOPPING off excess fat etc. Your emails, important/unimportant/read/un-read are chopped/deleted every 3 months. (though not mentioned in their AUP, but somewhere hiding in the support manual) So better purchase a 3-month alarm clock and in the 11th hour don't leave home! who knows u got a important email.. only to be deleted in the 12th hour!! Any competition to this nice feature? what to talk of other hosting providers, i think even the free email providers.. yahoo, hotmail cannot even stand to this great feature. my comments are on the W2K reseller of Donhost, unluckily i didn't got oppertunity to try their unix side... but anyway the bunch of wierdos managing the thing should be same...

mk123, I'm sorry but you make me laugh! Where are you from?

Posted by Shazan, 08-13-2002, 07:02 AM
Me too! He's from a country where they don't know that plesk and cpanel work only on Unix servers... In his country they also have connectivity problems with U.K., so that they cannot have an happy FTPing. In the rest of the world we do not experience such this problems...

Posted by dodgeviper, 08-13-2002, 07:35 AM
BTW mk123, I meant that in a good way I contacted DonHost again to see what their policy was on the deleting of email problem that you had and I got the following reply. With our pop servers what we do is we clear out read messages that have been left on our servers for more than one month and unread messages that are over three months old, again this is due to the nature of our bulk hosting we have alot of inactive email accounts that tend to fill with spam if we didn't clear them out the server would simply run out of space or start chugging along causing delays to our email service. What has upset a few people is the fact that they use the pop server for web mail so instead of downloading there email to say outlook such as a pop server is designed for they instead use an online pop checker to read there email on the server and instead of downloading them they get left on there indefinitely, so what happens is there pop checker marks them as read and three months down the line there wondering where there email has gone and off course its been removed. Most of our resellers simply copy our policy into there own terms and conditions so again its rare when we get and problems due to this. Again all this is done not to annoy people but to keep our servers running smoothly and to make sure we provide efficient mail delivery.

Well. We've had an acc with donhosts since May this year. To be honest, we've had NO problems with them at all (as yet). With the exception of the extra bandwidth charges.... Can't really fault the AUP (or the doc pertaining to emails). Better to offer FAST servers, rather than machines running at half thier prospective speeds. Also, what's wrong with the cp? OK. It's a little basic. However, it does open up MANY possibilities for customisation... BTW. Chose donhosts over the other UK resellers 'cause they are only about 20 miles from us & I can be there in 25-30 mins.......

mk123 - i'm sorry but Donhost have one of the easiest to use, most fuction-packed control panels out there. Your comments really do make you come across as immature and ignorant. As someone who has used: -fasthosts.co.uk -ukfast.net ...and who still uses mchost.com for my overseas customers, i can safely say that Donhost is leagues ahead in terms of uptime, support and control panel offering. As previously mentioned, if you stick to their AUP and make sure your customers conform to it, you will have no problems. Having been with Donhost for over a year I can say that i am VERY happy with what they offer. If you check these forums using SEARCH you will find that most of the Donhost criticism is quite old now, and most of it seemed to take place in one big block - again i'm sure that most of the criticism came from either Ian White (ex Donhost employee) or from those hosting warez, mp3's or porn....seemed to turn into a free for all for a while. Donhost gets the thumbs up from me - perhaps they have a filter set up on their servers for kicking off the wankers?! Last edited by sco44; 08-14-2002 at 05:55 AM.

thanks sco44 and few other newbie's.. be happy and my best wishes btw any respectable company would have put the deleting of emails every three months in the AUP. NOT hidden in the Support manual. So that you know before signup. And not at the time when all ur customers bang at you demanding where their email vanished? And u also don't have any idea, but when contacted u got the reply as posted by dodgeviper And for your info i come from a small, modern and strict country, where u can be pulled to court and your future doomed, if customer complains that their important info is lost. Also, can you justify the customer who's using 10MB of the 100MB allocated, that his emails are wiped out? sco44, for the feature.packed cp u'r mentioning pls try to arrange the points in one place at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=61774 I'm absolutely not happy with your Donhost, but still i make you laugh cuz inspite of all i smile and go on... yes i give my opinion, community service like what Bob says... as till now i haven't opened any thread of hate Donhost. If you don't like my opinion, just hear what others say. If you don't like to hear anything bad about Donhost (for any reason), then sorry guys, ur in wrong place. cheers!
