Ossec & cPanel?

Posted by sh4ka, 09-12-2008, 09:34 PM
Hello, I would like to know if its recommended the use of Ossec on a RHEL 3/4/5 plus cPanel? Any advises or suggestions to avoid cPanel/services issues? Thanks.

OSSEC is completely separate from cPanel. I see no trouble running it on the server.

The only thing i can think of is that you have to tune OSSEC config. So if you get email about things you know that is right, you make OSSEC to ignore that file/process. Some files get updated everyday, so you can ignore that file etc.. Been using OSSEC for a while now, and its all good.

Great... do you recommend to install Ossec as local on each server? or just install client and use one server as server to recieve and process data from each server? In the last case, what ports need to be opened on firewall to allow data transfer? Thanks.

Start with local, easiest to get to work. then you can go more advanced when you get more comfortable with it.
