Depending on what technology you want to use and how much money you have, you can either use RED5 or Adobe Flash Media Server or Microsoft Windows Media Services.

You could also check out this influxis.com, I think they are pretty good if you not wanting to purchase any software.

What would be the best do you think? I have no problem with getting a server and bandwidth to handle it either our Australian based servers or U.S based servers will work fine. I have technicians hired who may be able to help set the system up i just want some pointers and maybe a general over view on what to do?

I'm sure you'll be able to get cheaper bandwidth in the US as opposed to Australia. Anyway, I prefer flash streaming, as it feels more accessible and you can use your own custom made video player with as many or as few features as you want.

Another Flash streaming alternative that works great for live is Wowza Media Server (wowzamedia dot com). You can install it on your own (or a hosted) server or contact one of the hosting/streaming providers listed on Wowza site.

You have a free alternative to Adobe Flash Media Server, it is called red5 from osflash. For MP4 content, mobile video (3gp for example), you can use the "DDS" (Darwin Streaming Server). This was "free" solutions for Linux environments. For MMS protocols ( Microsoft Media Streaming) you need a windows machine. I hope this help Regards, <> Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 09-17-2008 at 06:07 AM.

Well, in my opinion, MMS protocol is very extended, but "any" flash media streaming allows a lot of lexibility in any kind of multimedia content (and of course any kind of dynamic content - live chats with support for webcam and audio -only one example-). The Adobe Flash Media Server, the license is expensive (depend for your needs). red5 is nice and its the free (but not equal) solution. I hope this help you Regards, <> Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 09-17-2008 at 06:03 AM.

I quite like Wowza media Server - currently testing out a demo version on a local server at work. I use for work right now a influxis account for small videos but another side project am working on is setting up wowza on a Linux VPS ok server and hopefully with all the bases covered this should go over well. We'll stream videos and audio content. We'll see how this goes. Go and download a free copy and test it on your server. Let us know how it goes? E
