Good UK Win2k Reseller...

Posted by mclh, 07-31-2001, 04:59 AM
I've drawled through the forums, trying to find what would look to be a reliable Win2k reseller in the UK and I'll tell you what - it's not an easy task!!! Can anyone actually recommend a company that: a) has some good deals b) has good customer services They don't have to be the cheapest, since you usually pay for what you get in this world - but I'm finding it difficult to find any reliable host! I know it's usually more common to slag off bad hosts, but someone must be bothered enough to actually recommend their hosting company!!?? mclh

I would look at the following: www.vibus.net www.xcalibre.co.uk Both offer win2k in the UK. There will be others, but there costs are good. SurfB

XCalibre only appear to resell Linux and Vibus don't instill much confidence after receiving no reply from their sales department following an emailed request for information sent last Thursday! Thanks anyway...any other recommendations folks?

I use NTWEBHOST, they're just moving to 2000 from NT4, so I'm not sure if you were to set up a new account, if you would get NT4 or Win2000 from day one, but I think the even if you got NT4, you would only have that OS for a matter of days, before it was upgraded. Support is good - the run a ticket system Service is prompt - helpdesk is open mon 2 fri 8-6 uktime, but the servers are monitored 247x365 costs aren't the lowest - but you get what you pay for.

jonny b, I spoke to Mark this morning to chase a response and he did suggest I contact you directly, although he couldn't seem to even find my original email. We need a supplier that we can contact easily and which responds to queries quickly - if the sales team don't respond within 3 working days, what chance do we have with technical support?!!! If I try you again, what's your direct email? mclh

fasthost.co.uk. very good company. they was able to assist me with online chat. they also have cool control panel. the only thing wrong with them is extra bandwidth which is very costly. best of luck.

Thats what i said, i had no outstanding eMails from last thursday, ie. i didnt receive it!!! my direct eMail is jonny.baird@vibus.net As for the FH recommendation, if you think 3 days is bad, you might as well expect 3 months from their support team. Cheers,

Both Vibus and Fasthost have are not bad and it depends what are your requirment. Vibus is more flexible in everything where Fasthost no chance. Fasthost control panel is a lot better than Vibus and easy to use.

easier to use --> Granted Better?? lol, do they offer : full DNS record editing, SSL from control panel, custom error pages, control panel for each customer, customisable control panel etc. etc.... didnt think so! Cheers,

Can anyone comment on vibus' technical or after-sales support? Thanks, mclh

Posted by banihani, 07-31-2001, 09:43 AM
Fasthost would charge for each control panel about $7 per year where Vibus is FREE. Plus FrontPage ext. cost about $40 per year from FASTHOST where it is FREE from Vibus .....etc. Vibus is the way to go ...

What’s that? I've heard of being off.....a few friends are fortunate enough to experience this ) we have a support desk to cope with queries anyway, it is administrated by 3 of our people so don’t worry!! Cheers,

I would like to test the speed of hosted client sites - can you give me one of your URLs? Have you had any problems with them? How long have you been hosting there? Cheers, mclh

We have used Fasthosts in the past and they are Farsehosts! (see http://www.communityzero.com/siteonsite for the full story) We now have 2 dedicated servers with Vibus and have been very happy. The support has been very good (Fasthost support is = zero!) and not just the "mmmm I'll ask the guy that gets paid the real money!". We don't see a better option so we are staying put. Bob
