[Help ] CPU load - 90% IOwait

Hi there , I run top command in cosole . #top -d2 top - 11:41:12 up 72 days, 17:57, 1 user, load average: 1.70, 1.26, 4.85 Tasks: 256 total, 1 running, 255 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 2.0%us, 1.0%sy, 0.0%ni, 8.3%id, 87.4%wa, 0.3%hi, 1.0%si, 0.0%st My server is busy for I/O . How can I find which process or user use I/O and how can I kill it ?

What is your memory usage at? The wait might be from memory swapping, or it could be from some intensive directory/file work. A ps would help, or just the full top.

This is reult of top command : top - 12:57:42 up 72 days, 19:14, 1 user, load average: 12.00, 6.97, 3.45 Tasks: 249 total, 1 running, 245 sleeping, 0 stopped, 3 zombie Cpu(s): 6.0%us, 2.5%sy, 0.0%ni, 23.4%id, 66.5%wa, 0.3%hi, 1.3%si, 0.0%st Mem: 1025796k total, 1006384k used, 19412k free, 14724k buffers Swap: 2096472k total, 284568k used, 1811904k free, 582816k cached Do you think The wait might be from memory swapping ? Yes, look at the swap, it is being used extensively. This is not normal. Ideally on linux little if any swap is used. What is the most resource hungry program you are running?

Possibly from swapping, as well as just the regular seeks. what does vmstat 1 give you?(watch it for a few) also, ps -auxf would be nice

Your only 2 solutions are to either find what is causing this or to add some more ram (1 gb is not that much)

284568k of 2 Gb swap space used - imho this is not a real reason for 87.4%wa Of cause, it it can be if you use extremely slow disks. provide output of 'ps auxw' - this will tell what is going on.

The wait was be from memory swapping . I upgraded RAM and My problem solved . Thank you for help
