Recompiling PHP

Posted by Cynthia Blue, 09-10-2008, 09:46 AM
I have to recompile PHP with GD Library support... of course it is making me nervous.. i don't want to mess up my VPS. I am hosted by Steadcom and I have Centos 5 as my OS. I'm not able to find where to run the ./configure command from. And I am assuming that if I view my phpinfo() and just copy all the commands there, change the GD Library support to with, and then run that, that'll work? I have never compiled PHP before. Where would I run the cofigure script from? I'm not sure where it lives. Thanks!

Pretty much copy the PHP config and add the commands for GD, yes. You may need to download the PHP tarball, unzip/untar it and run from within the subsequent folder - I'm not sure if they provide the source somewhere on that system.

if you are nervous, could be worth asking the hosts or getting a management company to do this work for you - there's lots on here that will do it for you.
