Yahoo and Hotmail mark my emails as spam/junk

Posted by foutrelis, 08-28-2008, 08:50 AM
I really can't think of what the problem might be in this case. Yahoo and Hotmail think my emails are spam and therefore put them in the user's spam or junk box. Most users don't look in there and so they never find them. I've implemented SPF/SenderID, DomainKeys and DKIM. The response email from check-auth [at] verifier.port25.com shows that it passes all tests. Also, I wasn't able to find my IP listed in any of the blacklists I searched. Additionally, I contacted Hotmail and Yahoo about the issue yesterday. Hotmail's response was a standard one that didn't help at all and didn't provide any way to follow up. I'm still waiting for Yahoo to reply. In a final attempt to locate the root cause of this behavior, I'm turning to WHT in hope of some member having similar problems in the past and being able to solve them. Thanks for reading. I had the similar issue recently. I did just everything you are talking about, except for I didn't install DKIM support (will have to though). I also had to get in touch with Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail. Yahoo and Hotmail responded within 2 days or so. Both of them said that they tweaked something on their end, and emails should be ending up in Inbox. Indeed, I checked it -- tried to email to my Yahoo and Hotmail boxes -- it worked! The emails were delivered to Inbox folders. Gmail team didn't answer as of yet (about two weeks already). And emails to Gmail users still end up in Spam folder. For now the only way I see is to put some note at the end of registration process about spam filters, and how to overcome it, and ask to "whitelist" my domain, etc. I'm more than eager to know of some alternative solutions as well. @foutrelis, sorry, my post isn't going to be of much help, but I just couldn't help replying to you.

I do not know about Hotmail, but if you contact Yahoo! they will send you a whitelist application - once they accept that you shouldn't face any problems. We faced the same problems as you, but they were resolved once we got onto the whitelist.

livechatr, your response pushed me to go ahead and reply to the generic email Hotmail sent me. Surprisingly, I just got a message that my case will be forwarded to the filtering department for investigation. I feel like things are moving forward. That's great to know! I'm expecting Yahoo's response to my support request so hopefully they'll take care of the issue at hand. A big thanks to both of you!
