Resellers , Monthly vs Annual payment ?

Posted by MrGoodHost, 06-14-2001, 07:35 AM
Anybody interested in sharing percentage info for customers that purchase monthly accounts versus customers that make an annual payment ? I only have annual payment now , I used to have both annual and monthly but nobody ever bought the monthly payment , they always bought the annual at 100% . I'm now wondering if it was mistake to get rid of the monthly even though nobody was purchasing it , was it actually just a good marketing tool ? So I would like to hear from the board , the breakdown for annual versus monthly , I mean like are 20% of your customers monthly pay and the other 80% annual pay . format : annual pay : 80% monthly pay : 20% For me its : annual pay : 100% Monthly pay : 0%

Haven't done the analysis, but off the top of my head I'd say 60/40 monthly/annual. Most hosts who do annual payments also offer something else with it like a discount or some free service.

It completely depends on the market you target, for me its annual: 100% monthly: 0%

ATM I'm only offering monthly payments which auto debit from the credit card monthly. Maybe it'd be a wise move for me to offer annual aswell..

Unless you're also going to include a discount or something extra I think few people will see the benefit of paying annually rather than monthly.

Many of my customers wish to pay for 6 months, so you should offer more flexibility in making payments

Well IMHO if you save money by incurring less credit-processing or similar bank charges then you could always pass some of that on to the customer if they wanted to change to annual billing. Personally speaking as a customer I wouldn't switch to yearly until I was happy with the service and it offered some small (or large) saving or a freebie worth having.

Hello Annual billing is the way to go. Every day I have a list of 5 or 6 monthly payments where the card is bouncing. I have to chase them up. Usually they have changed their e-mail address and I have to suspend the site and hope they put in a support ticket. If it goes unpaid for too long we terminate their contract. Now here is an important issue: If your web site is mission critical and you go on holiday and your credit card expires, what is to stop your web host terminating your web site because they are unable to contact you? - nothing basically So, if your web site is important you should make sure its paid up in advance.
