Question about blacklist

Posted by tim2255, 07-07-2008, 08:31 PM
We are starting to send our newsletter out to people who subscribe to it. We are using the same server our website is on, so we have the same ip address. We don't spam or anything like that, but what if someone wants to report you. Do you get blacklisted right away or does it take multiple reportings? Does it mess up your search engine ranking? Any feedback would be great.

Hello Tim, This is a sensitive subject so don’t quote me on anything here. There are a few methods to handle your newsletter/e-mail marketing and that is to pay someone else to do it or do it yourself. On the contrary most would prefer to do it themselves so I would recommend either: 1) Use an automated service such as RSS updates for example 2) Use an application from your hosting Going the first route might be a bit more safe since the content won’t be questionable and if the readers happen to tick off your e-mail as spam it won’t blacklist anything but the server the company you chose uses. Going with the hosting direction means using a system which you can access remotely. Also using a hosted application usually has the ability to broadcast the e-mails vs linking into an SMTP server. In addition, you may use software made available online and manage subscriptions online and have subscribers enter themselves directly into your mailing list. Hopefully I was able to provide some feedback to your question and I am sure others here will comment and provide their advice and knowledge. Cheers!

Since you are sending this to a subscriber list, this cannot be considered as spamming , there is no possibility that your Ip may get blacklisted. However the risk of getting blacklisted if the mails to a single server is huge and there are always possibility that subscribers to yahoo , msn etc tag your mails are junk, which would get your Ip blacklisted there .
