Geektorage [split]

Their website is down for the last 2 hours and same goes with their domain name pointers. My server IP is responding at the moment but my domain name isn't responding because the DNS Ips on geekstorage aren't responding.

Likewise, even GeekStorage website is down. I guess it's not off to a stellar start for me, a bit over 24 hours ago i logged in to cPanel to start setting up my site. Loading cPanel was "very" slow, so i checked the load and it was in the red before i even uploaded a page. So i come back today to upload the site and the whole lot is offline.

Yeah thats not a good thing.. I just repointed my DNS servers back to everydns so my site should come back up shortly However it'd be nice if the main servers DNS entries functioned

Incredible - I'm sorry to hear that you guys are having trouble and I hope that it all comes back up for you soon. I know how frustrating this can be.

Still down. Perhaps Jay can give us an update?

I have a reseller account in atlsrv3 and all works fine. Looks like his dns server and main server is down. CheckDNS.NET is asking root servers about authoritative NS for domain Got DNS list for 'geekstorage.com' from a.gtld-servers.net Found NS record: ns1.geekstorage.com[65.254.36.172], was resolved to IP address by a.gtld-servers.net Found NS record: ns2.geekstorage.com[65.254.36.173], was resolved to IP address by a.gtld-servers.net Domain has 2 DNS server(s) CheckDNS.NET is verifying if NS are alive Error fetching SOA from ns1.geekstorage.com [65.254.36.172], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline. Error fetching SOA from ns2.geekstorage.com [65.254.36.173], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline. 0 server(s) are alive No DNS servers alive, tests stopped roberto

Have any of GeekStorage.com's customers heard anything from them yet? The outage is going on 8 hours now. I called their company # (which goes to Jay's mobile I think) but he didn't answer. I sure hope this is fixed quick. None of my domains are resolving/loading and my email (which I pick up directly from atlsrv2) is toast as well.

Funny thing is even though my sites are all down including the main one, my control panel and email are working. It will not be at this place for long though as my boss has already had me open a new account at the other place I was considering. This isn't what saturdays were made for! betty

Yep, I just checked my email through my webmail. Can't connect through IMAP though for whatever reason yet. I guess it's just a DNS outage on their end. Let's hope this is cleared up soon...

...and just like that, we're up.

I had sent a support email and just got a reply: There was an issue with the primary server that hosts our name servers this morning. Geek Support has resolved this issue and your website should be working. betty

We decided to hang in there since they do offer that great 60 day money back. Time will tell betty

Wow, I slept through a GS firestorm as well as a hangover last night, I guess : P My site is not using the geekstorage.com DNSes, so I experienced no outage. For those that did, I suggest reading Jay's service thread about it: geekstorage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=879 For the lazy, since it's a short post: "On May 31 there was a hard drive failure on the primary server that hosts ns1.geekstorage.com and ns2.geekstorage.com, causing downtime to our geeks using those name servers. Geek Support has been working to restore service and, at this time, full service has been restored. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this downtime." It's a little odd that both name servers are actually on the same physical box... Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a secondary DNS, since any failure will probably take both down? In another thread, Jay said that anyone who has dropped below the guaranteed uptime from this incident should email billing@geekstorage.com to get their account credited. If this applies to anyone here, please post and let us know how the account crediting process goes; I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know how they handle uptime complaints. Let us know how long it takes to hear back, if you have to jump through any additional hoops after sending the request and how much they credit your account (both your monthly rate and the amount they credit you would be nice, or if you'd prefer, at least let us know if the amount you received is equal to a month's rate, less or more). If anyone decides they have to cancel after this and is still under the first 60 days, let us know how that goes, too!

Right now my uptime is 87.47% although i did only add Pingdom during the outage so it's not real reflective of true uptime due to the lack of data. I'm not overly concerned about a credit, i just want to get everything functioning. Does anyone have problems getting addon domains to function? I have added 2 since i got the account and both times had to wait many hours before the default cPanel page would go away and the server shows my files. I have added hundreds of addon domains to many servers over the years and it's always instant, as soon as i place a file in the folder i can pull it up with the browser. It's very frustrating waiting to setup a site, i've flushed my IP, cleared browser cache, try different browsers, going through different proxies around the word, even a different PC to no avail. The first addon domain took several hours before i could access the files in the addon directory. Also all my domains have many DNS errors, i'm not a DNS whiz so i'm not sure how bad they are:

Just a quick update, i created a ticket and support replied in just under 30 minutes which is quite good. The cron that adds the addon domains to lightspeed wasn't functioning, and this has been fixed now and it runs every 30 minutes. So the server can accept new addons now if anyone was having trouble before.
