Help needed to install phpmyadmin on a yahoo server

Posted by BinaryBird, 05-04-2008, 07:51 AM
Hello, i was trying to create a MySQL database for my site. My site is hosted on a yahoo server. From the control panel, when i click on the Mysql datbase link, i get a page that says Mysql database is active. Then as per the online help provided by yahoo, i created a database admin user name and password. Then i installed phpmyadmin in a newly created folder. Then i accessed the homepage of phpmyadmin and entered my login credentials i,e my database admin username and password. The next page that appears is supposed to let me create a database and access it. But all i get is an empty page with my domain name in the left hand side top corner and the link to the yahoo control panel on the right. I installed phpmyadmin couple of times to check if it was an installation problem, but it was of no use. I tried accesing it from my friends pc, but with no luck. I contacted yahoo support via email couple of days back, but still i haven received any reply from them. Please help me out to fix this problem. Is there anything i missed out? If so kindly point it out. Thanks.

I can't help you with this (because someone else installed phpmyadmin for me), but I do want to give you a piece of advice about Yahoo webhosting. I've had a phpbb message board hosted by Yahoo for over 6 years. Now I have to move it now to another host, because my message board's database has gotten too large for Yahoo. My database is almost 150MB, and Yahoo only supports databases of 100MB and smaller. Even Yahoo themselves have told me that I need to switch hosts. In other words, I can't buy more resources -- they simply can't support my message board any longer. If your phpbb database starts to get large, you will start to have problems like I have: debug messages, tables crashing, your board locking up, and everything going into the toilet. Phpmyadmin is very helpful when this stuff happens, because it's easy to repair the tables. But unfortunately for me, repairing is only a band-aid. Good luck with your board, and keep an eye on things if your database starts to get large. Do frequent backups! (Oh, that's another problem: sometimes the Yahoo backup utility doesn't work -- it falls over in the middle and doesn't make a backup. This has gotten worse as my database has grown).

Banged my head on the wall over this myself for a bit before I tried using IE. Oh wow, it works. I think it's something with the way the frames are coded in Yahoo's version of phpmyadmin that Firefox doesn't like but I haven't taken the time to try fixing it.
