Error log showing an error how to?

Posted by BORIStheBLADE, 12-26-2011, 11:41 AM
I looked in the error log in my cpanel and I'm getting a "File not found [/home/***********/public_html/403.shtml] " I don't have much experience with this stuff so any help would be appreciated. A little background. I recently migrated from one shared host to another about a month ago. This was an add-on domain which has its own host now. Thanks

Well, it seems that this file does not exist, so why don't you just make an .htaccess file and put in it:

So what your saying that is the file that people go to when there is a 403 error? Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks

Yes, either use an .htaccess file as shown above, or just create the 403.shtml file in your public_html directory.

This is good advice and will work if you plan on using custom error message pages. By default web servers and browsers have their own pages or messages to deliver on the event of an error. If you've never seen this error in your logs before, or you know you haven't any specially designed error pages on your site, than it's probably nothing wrong with your site. If you start writing pages for every error in your logs that says "File Not Found", you will have a LOT of pages in your site after a while. Trust me.
