A defunct process is basically a dead / zombie process that hasn't properly terminated and just sits there doing nothing. It could be caused by poor coding, a bad module, a random crash... anything really. It's nothing to worry about, unless you start seeing A LOT of these...

I suggest PRM - Process Resource Manager - Coded by rfxnetworks, it bandaids these zombie processes. Regards, Logan
