Posted by bla4free, 03-07-2008, 12:26 AM | Hi. We are going to offer web space to our students and we want to build a new server just for this purpose. We were looking at buying a storage array, a RAID card, and a server. I have no problems building a server; however, I have never built anything with an external enclosure. I am thinking about buying this storage array:

I plan on installing hard drives in every drive bay for a total of 12 drives.
The problem I'm having is I don't know what type of RAID card to buy. I saw this one; but, I don't know if it will work with this storage array.

Thanks so much for any light you can shed on this! I apologize for the link but I do not have enough posts insert URLs.

I plan on using a dual Xeon motherboard, 8 GB RAM, and a Supermicro server case. How can I connect this storage array to my server? I was reading the manufacturer's product page on their website and I did not see anything about RAID capabilities. Here's the manufacturer's page:

EDIT: Maybe I'm using the wrong type of storage array. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also, don't rule out a rack server with a lot of hard drives, for example http://www.supermicro.com/products/c...36TQ-R800V.cfm
Have a look at Promise, and others.
