IIS 401 Error???

Posted by homeboarder8, 01-09-2008, 11:33 PM
Okay I know this problem has something to do with the permissions on IIS, but I'm stuck. Whenever I try to access my site from an external network I get the "Access Denied 403.3" error. What do I need to change? Thanks. Last edited by homeboarder8; 01-09-2008 at 11:46 PM.

Sorry I posted the wrong error, the exact message is: HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource. Internet Information Services (IIS)

Chek out the user under which the website (directory security tab) and make sure the same user is permitted over the ntfs directory. Also check the file access using filemon (sysinternals)

repropagate the folder permission as well if it is not working

You may know how to do this and have already done it but if not, here's how to fix this: 1. Right click within the directory (away from any files or subdirectories) and click Properites. 2. Click the Security tab. 3. Click the 'Advanced' button. 4. Check the checkbox next to the text that reads "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." 5. Click Apply. If there are a large number of files that the permissions need to be applied to, you may see a graphic of pages being flown across your display. Or it may just disappear quickly if there are few files. Either way, this should resolve the problem for you.
