The server they run on. I am running solusvm and was wondering how the control panel connects to the servers they are put on?

You install a control panel on a server such as SolusVM and it uses commands to create, edit, delete etc. virtual containers. I didn't quite understand what your question meant so if you need more information just ask

I know what type of commands they send but how is what I am wondering. Like how does the control panel actually talk to centos to send those commands.

Using system calls and some of OpenVZ tools such as vzctl. In another way, the same was as you would do it

You do not need solusvm to make vps servers with openvz. Its just a tool to make your life managing openvz servers easier. Same way with cPanel. You do not need cPanel to manage a server but it makes managing a server easier. It probably uses php/mysql & perl & c++.

Control panels do what they do by issuing commands given to them by the software they're controlling. You can think of it as something like an API, these commands can be used by you to initiate actions on the software. Like the others said, most if not all of this can be done from the CLI by just issuing the correct commands; the control panel is just there to make it easier for you and offer you a better looking interface to use.

Cpanel is one of the easiest and mostly used control panel to manage the server. All the controls are done in a simple click in the graphical mode. Cpanel includes predefined scripts that controls your server in a very short span of time. Without Cpanel, all the settings should be made manually which is very time consuming. Plesk,Directadmin are also used for managing servers.
