Challenging problem

Posted by lamp, 11-16-2007, 09:56 AM
Hello, I have a fedora core 2 box running cpanel 11 at a remote site. Realizing that core 2 is extremely old, I'd like to upgrade it to fedora 7 or at least 5 using YUM. Has anyone done this before (with success) or would you completely advise against the upgrade? I was thinking of proceeding in the following way: FC2 => FC3 FC3 => FC4 FC4 => FC5 etc.. Rather than plain FC2 => FC7, although it would be nice. What are you thoughts on this? Thanks.

I would think that would be quite a challenge, do you have physical access to the box?

It's a bit of a drive but within reach... So to answer the question, yes, I do have physical access to the box but it's really not ideal.

Trying to upgrade that way you will brake the box, you better save a backup of all your files, including config files for apache named and so on and ask your host for a reinstall and restore all the accounts back after that. It should take you a few hours(2-4), depending on how fast your host will to the reinstall and how many accounts you have to restore.
