Indeed there are many solutions to overcome your issues. ionCube and ZendGuard are the two most popular products for "encoding" your PHP scripts. I can personally recommend ionCube as it is a very nice product and does the job well; I haven't got around to using ZendGuard as it's not within my business parameters to purchase that software when ionCube does the same for my business. You might want to try a search for ionCube on the forums. You should turn up previous discussions along the same line of questioning as your own as well as other member's opinions on the products in question. Some people feel ZendGuard is less "secure" than ionCube and alternative solutions, however neither have 100% assurance that your code will remain secret and protected forever. Personally I feel from a business perspective that ionCube is indeed the better product, from the support and help I have received from the people at ionCube and the initial pricing of the product compared to the much higher subscription pricing of Zend's alternative product. Licensing is a different issue altogether. You have a couple of choices; write your own licensing system, use an existing licensing system or use an existing licensing system with API to connect to an alternative billing system. Some of the more recognised products in the market are phpAudit and iono. However, these are both now owned by the same company; while I have used phpAudit I cannot recommend it for a larger scale operation with a lot of customers or a lot of licenses. The licensing part of the product is okay, however customer relations, billing, invoicing and payment is not to my taste in phpAudit; I would now have considered iono, however iono is now owned by the same company. WHT search is slow at the moment so I can't link to the thread I wanted to, however should you find it speeds up soon have a search for ionCube and ZendGuard; you should find a wide range of associated topics. Hope that helps,

If you want to encode it, you'll need to pay either Zend or Ioncube. Keep in mind though - That if someone wants your code, they WILL get it - regardless of what methods you put in place to prevent it. If you're depending on encoding to hide bad programming...don't. This got WHMCS into a lot of hot water awhile back.

Freely encode? No, but ionCube's online encoder is so cheap it's almost free. $5 could probably encode a small/mid-size script with ease.
