FutureHost.biz nameservers down to DDOS

Well, technically my site isn't down ... just all the sites that are using the two nameservers that Futurehosting provides for customers. That'll teach me to trust a host's DNS.

Isn't that one Softlayer?? I have two VPS's there both down, and I cannot use their Dallas Datacenter test download files. All I can do is put in a ticket and wait... I wish there was a forum, or news page... maybe a status page?? Is it just me, or is anyone else affected.

Well, it only took them 4 mins to post a response: Glenn, At approximately 23:06 system engineers were notified of service outages across multiple nodes in the Dallas datacenter. Network engineers are currently onsite working on this issue. From first review this appears to be a large scale incoming DDOS attack against the Future Hosting DNS servers. We will update this ticket momentarily. Thank you, Arun

Earlier today our redundant DNS servers came under a targeted DOS attack. Network engineers promptly responded to the issue by attempting to mitigate the DOS attack. After careful evaluation the network engineers in the Dallas datacenter null routed the IPs to protect the integrity of the network. Engineers will continue to closely monitor the attack. Upon null routing the IPs, several of our nodes on the same vlan stopped responding to network traffic. The issue has been resolved. Any clients that were affected by this and had an open ticket have been instructed on the appropriate steps to take in order to receive a SLA credit. SLA requests will be reviewed, approved and credited in accordance with the SLA policy. We all sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this. If any of our clients require any assistance, technicians will continue to be available throughout the night.

FutureHosting handled this DDOS very professionally. They arranged alternate NS server as part of the emergency plan to minimise disruption

Looks like it was handled well Just one question - Were both nameservers hosted in the same Data Center? Host's DNS they give to customers should be in 2 Seperate Data Centers

Posted by futurehosting, 10-27-2007, 07:34 AM
There are three, two in Dallas and one in Chicago. All three were targeted.
