Posted by xlguy, 03-04-2006, 09:30 AM
Hi, anyone else having trouble accessing their sites hosted on myacen.com? In addition to not being able to reach a client's site I also can't access www.myacen.com. Any ideas? Cheers.

Works for me.

Ok, thanks guys - very odd. Must have been a short term thing. Seems to be back online - thanks again for you checking it out.

Hmm, this might be a indicator of a more major problem. Now having trouble accessing certain domains, google.com being one of them. Before you rush to say "it's your ISP noob" - this has been reported by several other friends, all of them in the UK. I wonder if there is some 'break' in the chain... Found out from our ISP: Posted on: Saturday 4 March 2006, 17:07 Our engineers have identified that the issue with DNS lookups is external to our network, and there are reports from other ISPs in the UK of similar issues occuring. We believe that this is down to DNS Propagation issues elsewhere on the internet Last edited by xlguy; 03-04-2006 at 04:15 PM.

Who's your ISP Jack? We are having similar problems too from ours (BTopenworld). Just the odd DC is affected: fine via proxy but not direct.

Hi, it's PlusNet. It appears that several UK ISPs were/are affected. On a MyAcen.com related thing: Did they sell-out to Telewest? In the UK Telewest is a huge cable company, but the one MyAcen now seems to be part of is another company with the same name in Australia. All very confusing and I can't find anything on WHT about a merge/sell... or did I miss it?

Hi Jack, Definitely not our end . However that is strange the issue you’re having as we have dns in three separate geographical locations (one of a handful of hosts that do this). I believe Jeff answered you this morning, however for your server this year's monitoring: Anything scheduled, is always posted into the "my news" section of our client pages. This is the total downtime including scheduled maintenance in the last 12 months We've got the growth issues we experienced a few years ago under control and everything is smooth sailing now-days On the Telewest front, yes we are called Telewest and we've branched into other things locally under separate brands. Myacen's focus is web hosting only and would will like to keep it that way.

I think Robert changed his parent company's name to Telewest. I remember reading something about that on their site. There's no relation to the UK Telewest, other than the name being the same, from my understanding.

Ok, thanks for the info Aussie Bob. We've had an account with MyAcen for several years and have really enjoyed the experience, but I think Robert didn't really explain the whole transition very well - but that might just be my experience (or email problem for example). I have no idea what's going on, whether I'm now with MyAcen or Telewest. Also, I have a control panel area at MyAcen, a billing area at telewest and then another support portal somewhere area. Good news for any other MyAcen customers out there, Robert is indeed still around and in control. Apparently information regarding all the transition was posted on the web site when it happened. However, like many people, I don't tend to check hosting company's web sites unless I'm about to order or if I have a technical problem. Anyway, had a nice Live Chat, via the new support area and feel reassured that MyAcen is still on track I've also found out that they are working on integrating the billing, support and Control Panel areas which is good news

It seems to me that the concerns originally raised in this thread remain valid. My recent support requests are ignored. Earlier ones took weeks to get responses and remedies, even though they involved overbilling. Some of the myacen.com site pages are inaccessible, the contact page for example. Is this company still functioning in any reasonable way?

What is your ticket number? Please email me robert aT myacen dot com The average response time over the last 30 days has been 1 hour 4 minutes according to the stats I have available

You can only edit your post within 15 minutes of the initial posting.

That wouldnt explain the reappearing, would it?

Hmm. I'm not so sure. Nothing at all seems to have changed in the 6 months since this post. I can find nothing on their site about a 'merger' (or whatever), and the site itself still cross links with Telewest, as does Solidinternet's. Also, perhaps alarmingly, Coight/Robert's last activity on this forum was on 08-05-2006. As far as their forum is concerned, it is impossible to get into it, as registration still keeps us locked out. The site we have hosted there has been down today, hence our interest here. I hope I am putting two and two together and coming up with 99... but this doesn't look too promising. Does anyone know what is going on? Robert: are you out there still? The name change was due to a focus change and a movement into other areas. The naming for both solidinternet and myacen are both well associated with hosting activities only. Telewest is a corporate arm, servicing inner city apartments, high rise buildings with voip, internet other other communications. We also offer managed servers through the division locally. I don't come here often because this placed has gradually been falling by the wayside. Once a useful source of information this place is all about bickering and complaints and which host has the biggest "e-penis". In other words I have better things to do like oversee the daily tasks. Understandable, the outage was due to the softlayer issues. I'm sure you'd agree that the uptime we have is outstanding minus a few network issues we would probably be on 100% every month. I'm still here, but not at WHT. If you would like I can pm you my private contact details. Ribert
