Hello, There was no maintenance, neither any downtime reported by our multiple service monitors for the server you're on. However, regularly scheduled statistics processes may have been in process of being updated which may have caused a temporary lag on MySQL. For your convenience, please check our official forums at forums.polurnet.com for all network announcements and updates, as we'll be able to assist you directly there. It is updated frequently as well with uptime stats available for all our servers Best Regards,

Why would statistic updating cause a lag in MySQL? Specifically, if it even causes a lag, which it should not if I might add (assuming the server is well managed), why would it specifically cause MySQL to lag? Would it not cause Apache to lag as well, or heck what about the other services - cPanel, Exim? MySQL isn't anymore specifically affected than the other services are. Please explain your reasoning.

statistics fetch data, data it needs is stored in a database, the database happens to be mySQL, when the statistical program gets data, it uses mySQL extensively, thus the "lag" in mysql. No matter how well managed yours server is, when it filled with numerous accounts with lots of activity, lag will happen. He just opted to say mysql lagged, but im sure he knows cpu loads went up as well, so that causes high loads where apache could not process the data going in and out so after a specific time frame, if the browser does not get a response it'll give a 404 or server not responding, making a user think the server is down even when its up. for a guy with 4000+ posts, im guessing you hang around at the Web Hosting Lounge 98% of the time

Well contact the admin of this site : http://ver2.webhost-review.info/index_test_2501.html I think he monitors the webhosts he is testing hosts so if he has record of the recent downtime and is still testing polur would be able to provide some more insight. Downtimes happen , but denying it not good , so hoping this clears out cause from your last post i think your still not satisfied with the reply you got.

Not sure if you realize the data posted on the review page is refreshed every 15 mins by hyperspin, while our SiteUptime and HSpin refreshes 5 mins; both report good status for http. PS: That site seems to be down as I write now. Secondly, the stats posted on that website are not relating to the apparent report of downtime posted by the OP. It likely monitors a different server than the one the OP is currently on. n0ypi is correct; Exim uses MySQL extensively. Stats updates also use MySQL and CPU, however our logs show CPU was around 2/4 (usually <1) while MySQL was peaking quite a bit. It's usually resolved quickly, however, when other big sites on the server also constantly pound MySQL at the same time, it causes slow speeds for MySQL-based sites (non-mysql sites usually respond just as fast as normal sites do in our case). Other possible causes of lag that we've seen recently: - Large Mail Queue/Spam : we monitor this closely - CPanel/WHM updates/upgrades - Testing of new service monitors (we're working on a few now) In that case, if you send us a support email to support[at]polurnet.com (no need to login to helpdesk either), we'll respond to you with a server checkup. Please be sure to mention your domain, and server name. Email goes through a remote service so it should work fine. There's also an emergency email address, polurnet[at]gmail.com where we can be reached. Servers are monitored 24/7, so if there is a major problem with a server, it's already being taken care of. We're also in process of installing an automated MySQL monitor, as before only Apache/httpd was automatically resolved. As we don't check WHT forums often, one of the methods above is recommended. Also should add, always check DNSReport.com first if you ever believe your site is not responding; it gives a detailed report and thus could clarify any doubts. Not all statistic software use a database to store the data, so you're only partially correct and I'm not wrong. He did not say stats processing for exim in the beginning. Wow. FYI I hardly have any posts at the lounge. Most of my posts are in the main sections and if you notice I help out people in Technical & Security forums quite a bit . . . I wouldn't call myself a server expert but I'm getting there for sure. Last edited by layer0; 02-15-2006 at 08:02 AM.
