Did you purchase a domain name through them?

Yes I did! Been reading about it and realised it was a big mistake too! Learn by your mistakes!! Aaaaaaaa! Anja

Their website's nameservers seem to be down, so your best be would be sit and wait for another day. What is your domain name?

Administrative Contact: Server Space John Daly ********@serverspace.co.uk) +44.08707605332 Fax: Server Space Unit 18 Gardeners Way Rainhill Merseyside, L35 4PU GB You can always call them. Also, they use Enom to register domains, so, you could actually have enom transfer the domain away from them for you.

Upon looking a bit closer at this their domain is only registered until May of this year. Not a good sign. They are hosted at Planet, so it could be a connection/network issue or they simply didn't pay the bill.

Hi. I am currently hosting via Serverspace too. I managed to MSN the support person on Friday who said "I'll just go and check...." I'm still waiting....despite me sending various MSN messages whilst they were logged in. With regards to this, because of their utmost inability to at least provide some information I am now looking around (which is a shame as until now I always had good response form these guys). Anyhow - to my question. I haven;t done a very recent backup (I know I know) but do you think if I contacted Planet they might facilitate me getting my files? How would I go about this? Or is there any way round this for me to get the files directly if it is just their DNS that is down? Thanks for your help! Rupert

Hi Rupert, could you please tell me the MSN? Will contact them too!!! Would be brilliant if we can get our files from Planet! If we should be back online soon - the first thing I do is a backup!!!! Thanks, Anja

If it's just the DNS that's down, have you tried to access the site via IP? If you're using a control panel, and can access your account through IP or FTP, you might be able to get a backup through that. It's doubtful though that a datacenter would allow you to gain access to a server not directly owned by you, as they don't have any personal knowledge of your dealings with the company itself. Unfortunately, the realization of the importance of backups often happens after the fact, but I hope for both of you that you'll be able to recover. Good Luck,

Anja, I've sent you an email with the details. Can you let me know if you make contact or somehow get your files back? I've resigned myself to losing the data and moving on but just in case... As an aside - does anyone know of a decent backup package that does over the net backup of websites? I have Roxio for local use but I don't think that supports over the net backups. Thanks, Rupert

I believe any dedicated server provider provides backup space in increments of 10GB anywhere from $0.50 to $0.70 per GB. You can then use FTP or rsync (if available) to move files between your server and the FTP space.
