Yep, the ns3 server of my dns service is with them and I got notification it is down. No problem since ns1.ns2.ns4 are up and running in other places on the globe. I am with them for almost half a year now and never had any grief with them. I hope they sort this out in a timely fashion.

Yeah someone else was complaining about serverpronto so I looked at it, it was strange, before their AS number just dropped off the face of the earth, or got nullrouted (Of the two different locations I tried to traceroute from, they both just dropped it after the first hop). Now their in a routing loop with cogent

Hah! Cogent and their routing *g* .... yeah yeah the ways of the LORD are mysterious... Cogent's routing as well

Yes seems like their web site is down. I have not any servers there. Infolink is down as well.

on the frontpage of serverpronto.com is their sales number, call them and ask for the datacenter humber. P.S. there is a special forum for host down posts

Posted by Maxo, 03-09-2005, 08:40 AM
The Site is down, so I doubt one can really get their customer support number. Maybe you can try the number from their Whois: +1.3053241616

Cogent sucks! It isn't really their fault.

Posted by Maxo, 03-09-2005, 09:09 AM
StarGate, But it is not customers fault as well. When you get the payment for your service, you should deliver it well.

Posted by StarGate, 03-09-2005, 09:11 AM
Agreed 100%... no doubt about that. But it is good to know that it is not directly them but they are suffering bad service themselves an if it was solely up to them all would be up. I hope they will change to Yipes though who have same good prices as Crapgent

They are down again for at least 14 hours now. Does anyone have more information?

Posted by drstrangelove2, 03-09-2005, 10:07 AM
has someone talked to serverpronto yet? would be really interesting if - and when - their net comes back... can someone recommend a ded. server provider with a price comparable to serverpronto? thanks,

My serverpronto box has been up and accessible all morning as far as I can tell. I'm also able to access their website right now. Is your box back?

Posted by drstrangelove2, 03-09-2005, 01:07 PM
it's back since about 60 minutes. Hopely for more than 7 days... this was the last time my server went offline :-(

Posted by StarGate, 03-09-2005, 01:39 PM
They are "up" again i.e. Cogent fixed their xxxx again and it hasn't been 4 full hours but it was too much to bear for those having working sites on their servers. AFAIK they are working on better providers atm to improve the situation. I am confident cause IMHO they are nice folks and want to provide good services.

Posted by Maxo, 03-09-2005, 01:44 PM
Their Web Site is accessible. It is really interesting to hear the information about the downtime.

https://serverpronto.infolink.com/modernbill/ Log in and ask them

Posted by Maxo, 03-09-2005, 01:52 PM
I am not their customer So I would really like to hear from someone what happened.

Posted by StarGate, 03-09-2005, 01:54 PM
Cogent had one of its crazy routing loops again.

We've been looking at the possibility of adding Cogent to our list of transits, so this is an interesting discussion for me. Does it really make a difference to you guys when a datacenter advertises "no Cogent bandwidth"? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Posted by Maxo, 03-09-2005, 03:42 PM
It does make difference actually. Because of the feedback regarding their bandwidth, I presume there is perception developed in customers' minds regarding them.

Personally, I have nothing against Cogent. If you are adding it in the mix with other bandwidth providers, ie multi-homed network then it can be a great advantage because cogent can be strong in some areas. My only peeves would be that Cogent is offered as the only bandwidth provider and that it is seriously oversold.

Posted by dollar, 03-09-2005, 04:08 PM
Cogent doesn't bother me eithre so long as I see other great providers on the list. If you use pure cogent, I would run. It also depends on the clients you are catering to. If I have a mission-critical site, or gameserver, or anything of that sort, keep me off cogent.

For those interested in such things, there's been a spirited discussion on some industry mailing lists regarding Teleglobe's recent move to de-peer Cogent. Teleglobe isnt a giant player in the IP world, but they do carry a fair amount of international traffic, and right now the paths from Cogent to Teleglobe are ... uhm .... interesting. Good feedback on the Cogent stuff, though. Thanks guys.

ThePlanet seems to have put Cogent to a good use. They leave their dedicated servers and colocation servers on their premium bandwidth network, and they place their unmetered servers on the Cogent network.
