Managed's IRC servers DOWN

Posted by ResellerPlanet, 01-08-2005, 01:45 PM
Hello, Yesterday I noticed my (IRC) server with Managed was down so I sent them a support ticket to reboot my server. I got this as answer: DAMNIT Does anyone have any updates regarding this issue? The fact that XO is the only ISP hosting those servers also SHOCKS me... Thanks

it is slightly annoying. But by the posts in managed.com forum they are truly trying to improve their services...

Yeah, check the new managed.com forum. http://forum.managed.com They have an announcement about it.

Also thumbs up to managed for giving you all a free month. Think how much money (relatively speaking) that will cost them.

well IRC network isnt that big... but they destroyed 99% uptime gaurentee with that

Posted by ResellerPlanet, 01-08-2005, 03:49 PM
Well I don't think it'll be that much. They aren't offering IRC servers for that long, only for the last couple of months. The amount of IRC servers they have is relativly few I think.

Why can't people, businesses especially, use spell check? The spelling errors in Managed.com's announcements are enough for me to never do business with them. I'm not picky/anal about spelling, I'm really not, but if you're releasing an "official business announcement" you don't use "payed". *sigh*

I agree most definitely. Spelling and/or grammar mistakes is a major turn off for me. I see hosting sites all the time with both types of errors and it makes you wonder how old are the owners, how much K-12 education they passed, and how they ever get any customers..lol. Richard

For hosting companies I can understand that alot of hosting company owners aren't from the UK/US and don't speak English as their mother language. However, for a website and official announcement, I must agree with you. My english isn't perfect either but therefore I let several friends for the UK/US/CA check my websites for spelling errors etc.

If you're having problems with your upstream, you do not discontinue service with them, causing downtime for your customers, until you have another provider turned up - That way, you can migrate customers without causing downtime. This is yet another example of why Managed.com isn't a good choice.

Agreed, they should have fixed the issue with XO at least they get another deal and move their clients to them instead of just cutting XO and causing downtime for their clients, anyways at least they are giving a month for free.

I think XO has cut Managed off, not the other way around... correct me if I'm wrong.

I would say you are probably right Theres no reason for them to cutoff XO without having something else arranged. This was not planned.

Not only IRC Servers.. Other servers also DOWN. ( I am now realy feeling the heat of managed.com business.

There's no way XO just cut managed's line without any notice. Unless managed violated XO's TOS or didn't pay the bill.

Their TOS oft ties into their contract involving an Acceptable Use Policy as well which involves DoS and whatever activity goes on on that line. If XO has an inkling illegal activity was going on and Managed didn't make the right adjustments (or soon enough), XO could have cut rhe line for failure to comply with TOS/AUS etc... Just a thought.

Yes that's a good point but were I would think that managed could respond quick enough before XO dropped their circuit. The fact that managed is looking for another providers leaves me with a feeling that managed didn't comply.. I mean this is XO were talking about not cogentco

That's the only logical answer, but I'm just reading off of what Managed.com's lie-filled email said . Traces from XO San Jose show that Managed.com no longer has any connectivity turned up with XO - Gotta love Managed.com's brilliant idea of selling budget IRC servers without having support of their backbone . Edit: Not sure why this hasn't been moved into the outages forum... Last edited by Joshua; 01-09-2005 at 12:14 AM.

I didn't notice that... They are online at this moment.

My server hasn't had ANY network downtime at managed, ever, touch wood it wont do. This is probably yet another n00b trying to badmouth a company that everyone already knows is a budget provider. I'm well fed up of defending managed.com nowdays, don't expect services from a top class provider at a very small fraction of the price. We don't expect managed.com to be the best ever for those prices, and frankly I don't think anyone else should expect it either. It's like buying GTA2 in the budget range of games, expecting it to have as good graphics as GTAA.

We do realise that Managed is a budget provider and therefore I don't expect it to have the best connection and the fastest support. But please keep in mind that ALL the servers on the IRC backbone are being down for DAYS now. Also, Managed's explenation is weird imho. (EDIT: modified my relpy a bit, sorry) Last edited by ResellerPlanet; 01-09-2005 at 10:23 AM.
