hostspace.us down?

Posted by TheSquire, 10-28-2004, 12:29 PM
My site is hosted by a hostspace.us server and it has been down for the last few days, and so is the site of the webhost that offers me that webspace. Does anyone know anything, or is it just me? Thanks! Christoph

I think it is better to contact the support, they could say you something about that!

Well, the "problem" is I am hosted for free, so I don't really wanna make any claims or complain. I was just wondering if anyone knew something about it.

I think that even if you are hosted for free you have the right to know why your web site is down. I would contact support if you are able to.

Ya, I've hosted people for free and I treat them just like I do any other customer. Its not that big a deal to make an email inquiry.

Yeah I found the admins IM info and added him, so I will ask him when he comes online.... Thinking about it, I think I will go ahead and email him. Thanks guys! Christoph

Hi, Whether you are hosted for free or you are on a paid service, it doesn’t matter. The issue is that your website is down. I would say that your best bet is to contact the hosting companies support team, they should be able to let you know what’s happening. Good Luck

just wanted to let everyone know that it is working now, no problem anymore. It might have just been a change in DNS or something and took a couple of days to take effect... thank you! Christoph

Hi Actually the down time lasted about four days, and it was due to the server beginning to melt down. From what support told me, the backup and transfer was taking longer than they thought it would, but the disk swap should be done "soon". The latest adventures, beginning yesterday, have really been fun. No one has answered (or, apparently received or read) any email... support OR the owner... and this morning I was so desperate I had to download Trillian and get ICQ, AIM, and all the other accounts just to try and contact them, since they have removed all contact info... including disconnecting the cellphone, which could also be emailed. I have a client who is on a cross-country tour promoting her charitable foundation. She's contacting the press only to find that her brand new website is unavailable. And no matter how I try to contact Michael Curtis or hssupport, or how long I wait, I'm not getting any replies. I've been so desperate to help my client and get an answer to what is going on that I've been doing my own search, but I can't find any answers. All I have on Trillian from hs is an 'away' message that tells me to go to their website and send in a support ticket. Well, as of this afternoon, if you go to the website, it's been replaced by what I can only guess is a hacker's site. Interesting, huh? So, I'm shopping for a new host for *all* my client's domains, and mine too. This is insane. Six days of downtime in one and a half weeks. Whenever I can get any brief amount of time to connect to the site I download all my databases and pull off content. This has been a *nightmare* and I've never encountered anything like it. I certainly don't expect any answers after it's over (if it ever is... this just doesn't seem to end) and I doubt that they will try to make it up to clients for these huge mistakes. I'd love to be proven wrong about that, though. I hope that your free account is worth paying something for, The Squire, on another plan somewhere else. Best of luck to you And to everyone else going through this! ~ Michelle.

That is very odd! I just tried my website and I can't reach it again. FTP works fine though, so it might just be my work computer. I checked at home today and everything was working just fine. I think that hostspace.us admin is a member of this site, his username is Curto, and he has contact details in his signature. I am sorry for you and hope everything gets worked out fine! Christoph

Hi TheSquire I imagine that the hacking is the reason why you can't get to your site. I can't get to my site, or my client sites either, since this morning. It's not just your computer, I'm afraid. I'm FTPing right now, have been all day, to pull down as many files as I can before the thing self-destructs. I can also get email (sometimes). Yes, Curto is a member here, but I have all of the contact info in his file and neither he or "Chris" (support) are receiving email. He is online but in away mode and also refusing to receive or answer messages. I've got no idea what is going on, so I'm only *guessing* that things are going to hell in a handbasket after six days of downtime, a melted server, and a hacked takeover Curto is a really nice fellow and I wish him and the company well, but as someone who has been with him from the start and also a as a client who pays for my services and does so on time, I don't deserve to be treated like this. No one does. Hope you can find your site soon, TheSquire... but please take my advice and while you are still able to FTP in, grab all of your files and also your databases (plus any other info you need or want such as graphs through the CPanel). It might not be there tonight. Good luck! ~ Michelle

Sound slike they are having some serious issues, it may be time to switch web host.

Michelle, thanks for the advice. I am at work right now and don't have access to my cpanel or the website, and I don't have any way to get my files from ftp home from work. I already made a backup a few days back though, when the site was gone the first time, so I am not too worried. I do wish Curto and his company all the best though, and hope he gets it all running again very soon! Christoph
