Please, Please help! Email migration mess!

Posted by stevenhere, 05-04-2017, 09:37 PM
First, our company has 2 sister companies. Each company had their own email server. I am trying to migrate email away from the other servers and consolidate them to one server. I bought a hosting package from 3IX.com and transferred the first domain over. I did not have to change the MX record on Go Daddy because I am using the same mail.mycompany.com. There was a DNS A record for mail and I replaced the IP address from the old email server to the new IP address for the new server. This was 3 days ago. Propagation is over. But here is my problem... With the new email setup in the new server, I can get email and send an email to everyone, except our two sister companies. This is affecting our business in horrible ways and I have been going thru 3IX support and Go Daddy support constantly, but they have failed me at every turn. I have scoured the internet, and have found no resolve. So I am here, pleading for help. If anyone knows anything I can do, I would appreciate it so much. If you need to ask questions to get more of an idea, I will be closely watching this thread and will reply promptly. Thank you. Last edited by stevenhere; 05-04-2017 at 09:41 PM.

Do you have cPanel for both servers ?

Ask your host about the email log and this will give you an idea what is the issue.

Yes. Another thing is, I am seeing errors like this: vent: rejected rejected User: -remote- Domain: Sender: sendersname@mysistercompany.com Sent Time: May 4, 2017 6:31:18 PM Sender Host: gateway33.websitewelcome.com Sender IP: 192.***.***.** (I removed IP address) Authentication: unauthorized Spam Score: 0 Recipient: recipientsname@mynewemailservercompany.com Delivery User: tuckerst Delivery Domain: mynewemailservercompany.com Delivered To: Router: reject Transport: **rejected** Out Time: May 4, 2017 6:31:18 PM ID: 1d6S5l-000AB5-In Delivery Host: gateway33.websitewelcome.com Delivery IP: 192.185.145.24 Size: 0 bytes Result: Deferred due to greylisting. Did you enable Greylisting option ? If enabled check Greylisting policies

Posted by stevenhere, 05-04-2017, 10:10 PM
It was enabled by default. I tried disabling it and got this error from sister companies trying to email me: Sender verify failed Where do I change policies for greylisting? I will go look and see what I can find.

In Documentation it says: I only have the option to enable it. Nothing about adding sites to the greylist.

Posted by HOSTHONEY, 05-04-2017, 10:19 PM
Do you really need greylisting option ?

Posted by stevenhere, 05-04-2017, 10:34 PM
No, I don't. but when I disabled it, I was still getting errors and had the same problem of emails not making it to me from our sister companies.

Go to www.mail-tester.com and send an email to the address it describes... it'll tell you everything that is wrong with you DNS and email, might shed some light. Also can you whitelist the domain names of all the servers?

Assuming all 3 companies have diff domain names .Have you only transferred one domain over ?. Who is handling MX of the other hosts right now? If all 3 domains were on the same server .mail from comp1 to comp2 do not need a MX lookup and the system will consider it as a local delivery. If they are not the new server must do a MX lookup and route the email to the MX of comp2 and comp3 . There are many MTA's around and the settings etc would be diff for each. generically a mail server would do a MX lookup for non-local domains and a local delivery if the domains were all hosted on the same server as virtual domains. Email filtering can also cause delivery failures. Understanding whats in your log is crucial and I think you should seek professional help if you cant handle it. bits of info you provide here does not equip anyone with info to help you out.

Don't forget to set rDNS to be just like your A record it is very important, otherwise your emails may be rejected by other mail servers. As @gnusys said you should point MX to the right server. Services like https://mxtoolbox.com may help you to find the issue.

Enable SPF and DKIM.

Posted by stevenhere, 05-05-2017, 05:39 AM
Do I add those on my domain registrar (go daddy) or on my host in the advanced zone editor? *Note, the nameservers are go daddys NS and not 3ix.coms.

They would get added at your host.

Since you mentioned "sender verification failed" error message, I am thinking that you have an SPF record set for this domain and did not update the record with the new IP. You would change that via the DNS record configuration page / zone editor for this domain.

The problem is, sending and receiving emails to these 2 IPs:
192.185.118.90
 and
192.185.119.10 I can send and receive email to everyone else, but these two IPs are not coming thru right. My domain I am trying to acecpt mail from those to IPs, is clickitautoandrv.com I have been confirmed over and over again by my host and registrars that all settings are correct/]. So I can only assume that the problem lies in there other server? Is it because these three domains used to all be on the same server, and by moving one of them I broke some weird connection?
