Customer pros and cons of Yearly VS month-month/3-month/6-month contracts

I need your advice about the pros and cons of yearly VS monthly/3-month/6month subscriptions on a customer POV. Do your customers prefer to pay yearly or monthly/3-month/6month? Thanks!

Most pay annually or longer from my experience. Very few do 3 months or 6 months - it's generally monthly or annually - at least for regular shared hosting. Really it just comes down to how much you're willing to potentially lose. I never suggest spending more up-front than you can stand to walk away from. Going with a quality and reputable provider with a solid refund policy will help but honestly - I generally don't advise taking the risk. Once you've been with a provider for a while - and have worked with them and you're happy - going for a longer term generally isn't going to be an issue.

One of the things I would suggest looking into is what your needs are and what company can satisfy them. Then look into the company and go from there. From my observations, generally clients either do monthly, 6 months, or a year upfront. It just depends.

Sign up for monthly when you're first starting to use a certain hosting company. Evaluate it for a month and learn how good of a match they are for you. If all goes well - reach out to the billing team after that month is almost up and ask to switch your billing cycle to a longer term, based on what kind of discounts they offer when prepaying. Prepaying is a good way to save money but prepaying when you're just signing up is a big risk to take considering how little you actually know about the company.

Generally the pros are you receive some kind of discount, eg on a 12 month package, you get a month or two months free, sometimes a free domain etc. Cons, you are generally stuck with the provider for the term of the billing agreement, however they may offer a refund for cancellations part-way through the cycle. Check with the provider in question before you upgrade if you are unsure that they are a good fit for you.

A monthly plan is a good starting point, that way you can get a first hand experience of the provided service, which is way better than most reviews will be able to offer you. In some cases from a budget point of view, a longer billing period will result in lower expenses when devided by a period of 12 months.
