SAGO Networks / Hurricane Update

Posted by nexcess.net, 09-05-2004, 07:42 AM
I'm posting this on behalf of Sago Networks, at their requst, as a source of premptive info on their current situation as I just got off the phone with Adam @ Sago. A power pole/line tipped and fell onto their building apparently catching a portion of it on fire (along with cracking a generator in the process). The fire deptartment is on site and things are under control. and they are 'up' power-wise on a secondary generator. Their network / power / building is "ok" and they are working as we speak to get any clients who have boxes down back online. I don't work for Sago so I don't have all the answers, and they will post soon with full details. In the meantime let's wish them luck and hope everyone down there in hurricane land stays safe. Chris

The official notice posted in our forums by Adam earlier on Saturday, for those that may be concerned: Dear Valued Customer: As you are probably aware, Hurricane Frances is expected to make landfall on the U.S. coast at some point in the next 48 hours. Right now, the storm is expected to land on the east coast of Florida. We wanted to let you know that we are monitoring the progression of the storm closely and have initiated our standard emergency preparedness procedures. These procedures include: Ø Activation of the company’s Emergency Response Team, including onsite HVAC, Electrical, and UPS techs. Ø Doubling of our normal weekend support staff (in addition to the fact that our building is a shelter for some of our weekday employees). Ø Exercising back-up generators and topping off fuel tanks; Ø Confirming AC-plant battery systems, and; Ø Backing up network databases and configuration informaiton. During the event itself, we will be in regular contact with customers through communications from our Network Operatiosn Center. Rest assured that every Sago manager and senior technician will be onsite throughout the storm to backup our normal NOC personnel. In the meantime, please call the Sago Network Operations Center at (US) 813-839-6632 if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you. Regards, Sago Networks Support

Hello, We actually never lost complete service. Only a small part of the network was affected. The problem occurred at approximately 7:07am EST. Service was restored for most affect customers within minutes. A 13,200 volt power line broke and landed on our building. The fire department has certified our UPS systems for production and removed the hot wire. We will continue updating customers as the storm progresses. We have lost all phone service as well. Please contact us at our emergency number (813-839-6632) or http://support.sagonet.com/ with any problems or questions. Calls to our toll free number will not be completed or will ring without answer. Adam

Did anyone else had another issue ? one of our servers there seems to have rebooted indicating a probably loss of power. Any news? edit: (we were told there have been no issues, so sago is now helping us to troubleshoot what caused the reboot) Last edited by sprintserve; 09-06-2004 at 05:38 AM.

Hello, Just an update, things have subsided with the storm, but there's always the aftermath of cleanup and issues to be resolved. Currently, no phone service is available, so we ask that anyone with support requests, to please open a ticket, so that we can assist you with your hosting needs. We have just gotten a fuel delivery, and everything is working properly with generators, UPS's, batteries, etc. the exception being that the phones are currently down in the area, and we must resort to ticketing system only at this time. All service though has remained unaffected since yesterday's brief power outage to the small portion of the network. We thank you for your current patience and support during this time, and will update accordingly as we need to. Sincerely,

Hats off to SagoNet....Seems like they did a pretty good job throughout the storm...I can only imagine what it's like being in the datacenter and having one of those power lines falling on your building.

Hello Everyone, Thanks for all the kind words throughout the storm. We are still on backup power and are told we will be for the next 7 days. Of course, that is subject to change on the whim of our utility. Phones are still not operating flawlessly, so if you can't reach us by phone, rest assured we are still here and available at http://support.sagonet.com/ or support@sagonet.com. We have had consistent service with landlines for the last few hours without interruption. Cell phones have been up for about 6 hours, so our emergency number 813-839-6632 is forwarded to a cellphone and should be available. Again, thanks for all the kind words from our customers throughout this ordeal.
