Found a Server Management Service for OVH VPS, Shall I go with them?

Posted by vadult, 03-02-2017, 11:25 AM
After all those research i have found support sages who have knowledge of managing a server and they offered me 40 usd monthly for 200 gb vps on ovh servers and they said they can install and move our website into the new vps server. If I reach 200 gb of data after some time they also offer 500 gb storage for 60 usd. Seems more logical than godaddy business/vps or dedicated hosting. It looks more cheaper. So what do you suggest me? Should I go with them? I also want to continue our current unlimited shared hosting as a backup/restore option. Please give me your thoughts , thanks.

You can probably find a server management service that is cheaper than that.

Which one?

You could look at PSM - I am not sure if they will do KVM / Kernal and your server needs cpanel.

What is PSM? the website? Can you clarify it? I dont need cpanel.

PSM website: https://www.platinumservermanagement.com For the cPanel you dont need it but they do, e.g. its in their requirements if you want them to manage your server. Now if you ask me why any SysAdmin needs a control panel i dont have this answer to you, but i suspect its because they are using (a lot of) automated scripts what probably works only in cPanel environment. If you want real server management without such stupid requirements you will need to pay more than 29$/month (price from PSM). How much more depends on the company but i would say from 60-100$+ per server.

There is absolutely tons of different management providers out and about these days just take a look at the offers section for instance. Just select the best match, I would highly recommend you install Kernelcare as well.

I've read a lot of your threads, and it seems your budget is on the small side for what you need. I think unless you increase it slightly you're going to get disappointed with a service. Time will tell, though. So you need: Fully Managed VPS SSD 200GB Diskspace cPanel I think you might just be able to get that for $60/month and that's pushing it due to a significant amount of disk space you need or want?. If you need more than 200GB Diskspace then will most definitely need to increase your budget. If you don't need cPanel (recommended) then how are you going to manage your website? With a different control panel such as CentOS Web Panel or VestaCP? Just trying to help here.

Unfortunately, I don't see that happening at all on a VPS, at least not with 200 GB of SSD disk space.

Might be possible with Cached SSD, but not with PURE SSD.

That is not true at all. In fact, 99% of the work we do is not even related to cpanel at all. We work exclusively with cpanel servers just as a matter of efficiency. Cpanel makes it a lot easier and faster to do a lot of the "user" related tasks (ie, adding domains, adding email accounts, installing scripts like wordpress, etc) and this allows us to focus on the true server management related tasks (ie, security, optimization, upgrades, etc) which helps increase efficiency and keeps prices down. The majority of server management providers DO require some type of control panel, they may work with other types of control panels too, but we feel cpanel is the best control panel so we work exclusively with servers running cpanel. Having cpanel is not a "stupid" requirement. Like I said, the majority of server management providers DO require some type of control panel too. This is very common in this industry, and since we focus on servers used for in the web hosting industry, it's almost unheard of for a web host not to have some type of control panel for the same exact reason, it makes it easier for the users to do their own tasks like adding domains, email accounts, etc. This does not make the difference between real or not real. We do provide real server management. We still support the "entire" server, everything from the OS, kernel, apache, php, mysql, etc. We support every aspect of the server. There's nothing that we exclude from our support. Like you said, other companies charge $60 - $100, that's more than 2 to 3 times what we charge. Actually, companies that work with servers without any control panel are often even more, some even charging high hourly rates just because of the significantly much higher amount of work involved. We do not tell people to get cpanel just to work with us, but if they do have cpanel and need real server management, our service is available. @ServerManagement: I contact you in the past and i made myself clear that i dont need any "user related tasks". Actually i was pretty clear in my needs and all of them doesnt have anything to do with cPanel or any other control panel, and it could be done on the server without any control panel. To make it clear my servers have a control panel but not cPanel - just to take this equation out of the story. You refused to work and made a very clear statement that you still need cPanel. For what, i dont know as this part was not present in your answer. What doesnt make sense is you have been offered less work for same amount of money but you refused. This part is what bothers me over anything else.

Doesn't look like a good deal for me. Are they provide you any SLA to start with?

Hi @vintagemovies, There are the folks over at Smart Server Management. They offer a monthly cPanel management service which you may be interested in.

Is OVH a specific requirement for you? If not, have you thought about a managed service where in your provider in turn manages the entire server for you?
