is it primenet.cc or is it upstream?

Posted by meandean, 08-17-2004, 01:23 PM
I can't seem to get to primenet.cc ... would anyone know if it is them or their upstream provider/feed?

Posted by ChoirBoy, 08-17-2004, 01:53 PM
It might be a problemo upstreamo: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracer...ASTSERVERS.COM

yo, MD ... looks like it goes all the way up to EV1 ... here's how I figured it out: http://whois.sc/research2000.us gets me the IP address http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ping.ch?ip=207.44.136.111 and http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracer...207.44.136.111 gives me a report that there are problems upstream

I can´t reach any site hosted at Primenet.cc, however EV1 seems to be working just fine... Any other webhosting company at EV1 is having problems?? Regards.

Posted by RyanD, 08-17-2004, 06:34 PM
nope, I've got boxes at ev1 and have no problem

Posted by meandean, 08-17-2004, 07:15 PM
I know last month they got hammered with a DdOS attack ... I'm wondering if it is the same?

Posted by ChoirBoy, 08-17-2004, 08:16 PM
EV1 looks up from here EFastServers.com does not Primenet.cc totally hoses ... I guess so are you?

Posted by meandean, 08-17-2004, 08:56 PM
All I know is that it's been about 8 hours now. I've tried calling, but the # listed with whois isnt them. I have no other means of contacting them ... and panic is beginning to set in.

I am with Primenet and was happy for the pass few years. But recently, there were some instability on connection with them. But those were problems at my end (I think). Last night, they were still working well, but this morning, sigh... not even primenet.cc (which is on a different server) works. Things are looking bleak.

Could the servers or any of the links be hit by the hurricane?

Posted by goldcd, 08-18-2004, 02:49 AM
others at same DC with no problem, so probably not. I hope we get an update here. There seems to be no other way to contact. I've been with Primenet two years, hope it's not the end.

I've been on a primenet server for almost 2 years as well. Not that I expected reliability from them. I'm totally surprised at the amount of uptime and stability I did get out of them. When I first saw the length of time on this outage, I just figured they had cut and run. Maybe, maybe not, but dig doesn't even come up with any results when you dig their domain. Oh well... their death has been a long time coming. I'm done with shared servers anyhow, time for a dedicated. If you want something done right...

Posted by meandean, 08-18-2004, 09:24 AM
Why is it I'm always the last to know?! I guess I hadn't seen any problems other than a short outtage last month. Good point ... I've been on a dedicated server with a friend since December and had been debating moving the primenet.cc accounts over ... guess that decision has been made for me. Now the other question is ... can anyone point me to a quick FAQ on how to issue a charge-back?

Posted by meandean, 08-18-2004, 11:12 AM
Anyone got a phone # for Primenet Solutions? I tried to call the number at http://dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=EFASTSERVERS.COM (thanks for the hat tip ChoirBoy) ... ... got someone's personal answering machine (e.g., not a business). I've already moved my sites elsewhere, now I'm starting to get angry.

I've been with them for about 2 years now too. Thankfully, I moved all my high traffic sites to another host about 4 months ago after I had a rather bad time with Primenet (linda, Oz was always 'nice' when I had to deal with him). After having issues with my sites and opening a ticket, the response was verging on the disgustingly vulgar on how I was treated. Despite working with ISP's and webhosting (and saying this) I was treated as though I was the average user who just bought a computer from Wal-Mart and signed up with AOL. Long story short, I too expected this day to come, luckily I only had a few months left on my 'contract' so I'm not out a lot of money. Unless you paid within the last 60 days, you can't issue a charge back. If it has been within 60 days, the best way to deal with it is to call and speak to your credit card issuer as each company has different rules and criteria that has to be met before a charge back is issued. Whilst talking to them, you can determine whether or not you are eligible and if so, what you have to do to receive a refund. Good luck and fare-thee-well Primenet!

You can issue some chargebacks up to 2 years after payment.

Posted by andeelym, 08-18-2004, 11:58 AM
Well, its seems like that's the end of Primenet. I don't think I can get any money from them but I'll try... looks like its going to be dathorn for me... for now...

Posted by andeelym, 08-18-2004, 12:00 PM
But where can I issue chargebacks from? Paypal or my credit card company?

Posted by mjolnir, 08-18-2004, 12:08 PM
The primenet crew were horribly rude assmasters, with horrible server management strategies, as well as horrid business sense. Their demise was expected, as no business that rude to its customers will ever be successful, among their other problems, including the spread of lies and propaganda on this forum as well as their own.

Posted by mjolnir, 08-18-2004, 12:11 PM
Always your credit card company. Never deal with Paypal. Paypal is evil incarnate. http://www.paypalsucks.com/

Posted by ChoirBoy, 08-18-2004, 12:58 PM
Brutal. Unbelievable that a company without warning would just flip the off switch. I mean, here there customers have sustained them and their families, and how do they repay it? By putting the screws to their client's online business. Brutal, Unbelievable!

I use several suppliers similar to Primenet. I can't comment on your assertion of 'rude' because frankly I've never received a response the few times I attempted to correspond. One thing I can say is that since I created the account in December 2002, I've had only minimum outage despite hosting a very busy auction image app with them. AND That is a better record than with many others I've tried who are often mentioned here at WHT. As far as rude, you ain't seen nothing compared to one alternative mentioned earlier in this thread. I never realized the Primenet had all their eggs in the same basket until now, otherwise I would not have been with them this long. Still the service was reliable for a long time which can't be denied.

I've been with them for more than 2 years also. I Had very little blackouts. Let me know what's up with them. I guess I'm on the same boat as some of us here. thanks Space78

I am realizing that it is not an accident what happened to Primenet, it´s been so long since they are down. Is there any way to contact their providers? Obviously they had their servers in some center. The providers could give us a clue about what happened relly. Still hoping I can at least recover some information... Regards.

h**p://w*w.enom.com/domains/whois.asp?DomainName=primenet.cc&submit.x=23&submit.y=9 They are/were on EV1 boxes, but considering how big EV1 is I doubt they'd be very helpful in recovering any data off one of their defunct resellers. That said, it'd wouldn't hurt to get a hold of them and find out... Post back if it works! It's been a 36 hour outage for Primenet now, longest in the two years I've been with them so I think it is safe assume they are dust.

Posted by greystone, 08-19-2004, 02:15 PM
It looks like the problem is possibly upstream of primenet.. Efastservers which is what is listed as their nameservers dont resolve either.. Till now Ive had no problems with them.. In fact moved my domain registeration to their domain registration service.. which is kind of bad now since i cant access it...

Tried to email and here is the response: I'm sorry, but we can only provie technical support and access to the server to the owner of the account. Thank you, EV1servers Technical Support Oh well guess it was worth a try.

my sites are up and the home page is back. Will be interesting to find out what happened? Wish I would have held out a little longer! now entering DNS-Hell

Posted by tokenyank, 08-19-2004, 06:48 PM
Same here, everything is back up and running... That said, if they had a 36 hour outage, how much longer are they going to be going? I moved out to another host... Shame, but... having that much downtime is unacceptable.

I never noticed this before, but... Looks like not only does linda do tech/sales for Primenet, she's also a stock photo subject! Linda: w*w.primenet.cc/index.html Buy her as a Stock Photo: w*w.punchstock.com/stock_photography/photodisc/7446998/image_AA047973.html I also like how the 'trouble starters' (read: those that asked questions and wasn't satisfied with "it's your fault" as an answer) have been deleted from their 'support' forums... Ho hum. It was a pain to move house, but I think it was a long time coming anyway... No love lost... Get in there and get your backups whilst you can though folks!

Posted by Silvertig, 08-19-2004, 07:41 PM
My sites are back up but I have already moved to another host. I don't think we are going to get an explination as to why they were down for almost 2 days either. I know I am not holding my breath for one. Also side note anyone who is cancelling make sure you submit your "ticket" to sales giving them 30 days or they may try to take more money from you. Just a heads up..

Posted by greystone, 08-19-2004, 07:59 PM
Well they just popped back up..

Posted by andeelym, 08-19-2004, 09:20 PM
Well, its seems that they are up now... but i'm not going to put all my eggs in that basket anymore... since i got another host, i'm going to be shifting critical sites out.

Posted by meandean, 08-20-2004, 12:07 AM
I put in a help request, here's a portion of the reply: Well, at least they're not trying to blow smoke up my rear ... or blame someone else. Now if I could just get a couple of my domain nameserver transfers to actually transfer ... dns heck ...
