Any DataCentres with better uptime than this....

Posted by mark1hos, 03-20-2004, 07:19 AM
Hi, We currently only operate 10 servers and all except one reside with ThePlanet or ServerMatrix. We purchased our nineth server from them two weeks ago and the server went down everyday since then, so they said it require a chassis swap so we had this done, but no luck. We then upgraded the kernel to the apparent stable one for RHE (which SM declined to to for me as it an unsupported version) and it did not go down for the first time all day yesterday. Now today... since 12am some of the servers with SM have been down for over 5 hours and have just come back up. Is their actually a data centre out there that provide are near to as 100%? I mean there's BurstNet, Managed, TP and they all seem to have incurred rather large threads regarding their downtime. So does anyone use or can recommend a data centre where we can lease servers and be able to rely upon the stability of their network? Thank you for any advice. Regards, Chris

Check http://www.dod.gov They must be having 100% Uptime. Don't check mine. I am also with SM and still down. 15 hours in the last two days.

Here is the Network Information OrgName: Defense Technical Information Center OrgID: DTIC-3 Address: 8725 John J. Kingman Road Address: Suite 0944 City: Fort Belvoir StateProv: VA PostalCode: 22060-6218 Country: US Man... you can't expect US Department of Defense to sell dedicated servers to you? Anyways, Mark, have you tried doing research on EV1, GNAX or even NAC? Thanks.

I've heard GNAX is great for uptime, what has been your experience with them KKHost.net?

When it comes to uptime, definitely check out Dinix.com. After the datacenter move they'll be offering new dedicated machines (around April 7th I think) and getting rid of the directpath network. This means all dedicated machines are going to be on 100% internap bandwidth in/out (to my understanding). They offer a 99.999% network uptime and support is always around when you need it .

I've been through both downtime waves from managed and burst.. Quie unhappy, although burst is who pissed me off with their half day downtimes every few days for a while.. Manged just goes down intermittently.. ( just to give you some insight )

You are being unrealistic. Of course you can't expect to have reliable service for those prices. It actually costs money to have intelligent engineers and a redundant network.

Sad to say that I just subscribed to their reseller programme after seeing their excellent uptime record. Therefore, I haven't started my server with them yet. * I use Singapore servers for my shared hosting services. Thanks.

Could you imagine if the DOD did sell dedicated servers? Man... First, it'd be a hell of a way to pay for some of those 15,000 toilets I keep covering for them through my taxes. Secondly, who's going to try to social engineer their way in there? They have machine guns and Howetzers (spelling farked). Even Kevin Mitnick (pre-prison) would be uncomfy with that one.

Oh... now I know what I was going to post bout... . uptime, the program. Because the uptime program can report CPU utilization over 1.00, what is the average you guys see? How far can I push it safely? I got linked by a behemoth to one of my sites which uses SQL and excessive file reads, I've seen 2.00-10.00 for the last few days, and this month, I've seen 7 million (raw) hits. http://extremetracking.com/open;reloads?login=promethy

Well it is not so far away to host on www.dod.gov, like Microsoft, MSNBC and other they host on www.akamai.com, one of the securest hosters ever with servers all over europe and USA. Have a look here: http://www.akamai.com/en/html/about/nocc_tour.html and see if they can offer you something ;-) "From Akamai's unique vantage point of over 15,000 servers in more than 60 countries, we can not only see and manage our customers' networks, but also observe overall Internet activity. This insight helps our customers monitor program effectiveness, simplify network management, and unleash the competitive advantage of superior information flow. akamai is a content delivery network, not a hosting provider. as far as secure, they got owned and all of their source code stolen a while back. paul

GNAX is the way to go, they're great.

I would recommend superbservers.net They have uptime (100%), really good support that can find the reason of the problem (not only fixing your problem as many others do and it can happen again) and good hardware. We have several servers with them and quite happy for now Last edited by ATLEXru; 06-07-2004 at 08:46 AM.
