Nocster Really slow

Posted by michaelcap, 01-09-2004, 03:14 PM
I can't get a good traceroute done, but is Nocster presently really slow for others?

Posted by catfishing, 01-09-2004, 03:19 PM
Been slow on my end on and off for the last 48 Hours. Haven't seen any announcements?

Posted by michaelcap, 01-09-2004, 03:27 PM

That was someone jumping the gun. We are currently looking into reports of problems, but have no definite cause yet. Please watch http://forums.burst.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8 for updates

Hi, Seems like everything is running smoothly now, but few min ago seemed like burstnet's main site is getting flooded completely down while as servers were running fine there Good thing someone's there to take care of the situation quick.

Posted by Innerplanet, 01-09-2004, 07:19 PM
Yes, real slow for us also. It seems like something goes wrong every week. The link above isn’t working to check the Burst forums; does anyone have any new info on this?

Posted by sightz, 01-09-2004, 07:22 PM
It's weird - I'm getting decent traceroutes, but the sites on my Nocster boxes are only coming up about half the time. Started around 6:15 EST according to my monitors.

Posted by Innerplanet, 01-09-2004, 07:42 PM
Ok, here we go again, my servers are all unreachable.

Posted by Dacsoft, 01-09-2004, 07:44 PM
Can't because the link doesn't work - sure looks like you are down..

Posted by woolly, 01-09-2004, 07:45 PM
How come there are always DoS attacks.. are there ways to avoid/stop them?

Posted by isalh, 01-09-2004, 07:45 PM
i am completely down now and since 30 hours my server is very slow. we have exactly what we pay for...forum.burst.net is down too, desolation

Posted by Innerplanet, 01-09-2004, 07:47 PM
Hmmmm, real good question. We would like to know that too....

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 07:49 PM
This is not their support forum, if you want some answers, contact them via phone or try contacting them via AIM.

Posted by isalh, 01-09-2004, 07:53 PM
On phone, usualy we never receive clearly answer. And on aim : Offline

Posted by mikeym, 01-09-2004, 07:53 PM
I can still access my site OK, a little slower, no customers on my server yet though so I'm not worried.

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 07:54 PM
I'm sure they're trying to get the issues fixed, let's just hope sometime soon

Posted by Innerplanet, 01-09-2004, 07:54 PM
Hoobastank68 you are right, but this forum seems to have answers first.

Posted by sightz, 01-09-2004, 08:01 PM
Burst's forum page is loading for me at 295 bits per second on my 3.0 Meg internet connection. Ahhh, that brings back memories of the CompuServe days - 300 baud at $29.95 an hour! You can download a Meg in only 7.7 hours at that speed!

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 08:04 PM
I'm fine with it as long as this gets fixed soon, just dont want downtime like this every week, as a new customer. So far things have been great except for this DDOS, hopefully they'll try to implement some new ways to actively block the attacks for future preventions/protections. The speed has been good so far, so hopefully it'll return to normal soon.

I don't understand that much about hosting networks, well not on the technical side at least, but can't they just find the IP and null route it? Wouldn't that be a simple, fast and efficient way to deal with this?

Posted by catfishing, 01-09-2004, 08:08 PM
Had a good run there for a while, hope this gets fixed soon.

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 08:08 PM
Seems to be coming back, hope it stays that way (speed still needs some work) UPDATE: god...seems like someones got a lot of time on their hands...on a friday Went down again.. Last edited by Cirtex; 01-09-2004 at 08:13 PM.

DDos attacks can come from 10's of thousands of IP's

Posted by mikeym, 01-09-2004, 08:13 PM
Well I guess there would be many unhappy clients if they null routed everyone's IP's.

Posted by barko, 01-09-2004, 08:20 PM
When the network is down, what's the difference?

Posted by coight, 01-09-2004, 08:20 PM
I find it quite comical after all these problems they still havent got their issues fixed and people still signup with them

Posted by mrl14, 01-09-2004, 08:22 PM
Look, I don't want to bash Burst anymore, as nothing gets resolved from these things, but it's obvious there are things that can be done to ensure 100% uptime and to stop DDOS attacks, however, for what ever reason there is (maybe its the price point of their services or the market they are in), they have continually chosen to deal with DDOS attacks as they happen and thus we experience these issues. You know, I've dealt with several providers, and I've heard it all, from it's impossible to block DDOS attacks to simply installing this software or hardware and they'll stop. If the Internet was THAT easy to knock out, it would have been gone years ago. No other provider experiences as many DOS attacks as Burst (and if they do, they do a damn good job of hiding it). Everytime I regain my confidence back in their network, I quickly lose it again...what happened to starting fresh in 2004? Disappointed.

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 08:23 PM
seems to be back... it wont go down again.

Posted by coight, 01-09-2004, 08:25 PM
Still down on my end

Posted by mikeym, 01-09-2004, 08:26 PM
A few times I've been dissapointed with them, but I found that they always came through in the end. And it does seem that it's back up.

Posted by coight, 01-09-2004, 08:32 PM
Still down from ThePlanet & Australia

Posted by Cirtex, 01-09-2004, 08:34 PM
Maybe your talking bout burst.net its still down nocster.com is up and so are the servers/sites, or at least ones im checking.

Posted by coight, 01-09-2004, 08:37 PM
We have a server at burst that is still down. WE are not checking burst.net

Posted by Dacsoft, 01-09-2004, 08:38 PM
My site is up and running well. Just hope it says up. Its understandable that networks will have problems, and a focused DoS is almost imposisble to prevent. The issues becomes do you have the equipment and personnel to react quickly and restore service.

Posted by server4sale, 01-09-2004, 09:07 PM
ALL servers operational

Posted by Innerplanet, 01-09-2004, 09:10 PM
We are up and running also.

Posted by mikeym, 01-09-2004, 09:16 PM
No new post at the Burst forums, everyone else OK now too?

Posted by mikeym, 01-09-2004, 09:53 PM
Nevermind, I can see a reply now.

Posted by isalh, 01-10-2004, 12:02 AM
My server still go up and down. They reply to my ticket but not resolve anything for now.

Posted by mrl14, 01-12-2004, 07:05 PM
Now they are out solid again now! Jan 12th 6PM EST

Posted by Dacsoft, 01-12-2004, 07:09 PM
Verrry slow.

Posted by mrl14, 01-12-2004, 07:09 PM
Back.. 3 min later. Just disgusting really.

Posted by Dacsoft, 01-12-2004, 07:16 PM
According to Burst at http://forums.burst.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2121 : About 10 minutes ago, during what was supposed to be non-intrusive testing by our fiber carrier, the primary fiber path between Scranton data center and Philadelphia went down for a period of several minutes. At the present time we believe that there is a large possibility that the fiber carrier made a mistake and accidently took out primary and not protect path for the intrusive testing. - hopefully fixed and back is service.

That was at 2:45PM this afternoon Nothing about the last 5 min one

Not worried? Say you did have customers on the server, would you be worried then? Regardless if there are customers or not, the fact is their network problems didn't magically disappear with the new year. It appears to me there are different levels of quality/service in the hosting business and you (usually) get what you pay for. Any hosting company at the low price levels can not usually give the quality that more expensive ones can since they don't get the funds to make their network as reliable. Burst/nocster, along with many others is among this type of provider. But when you look at most of the posts on the forum, everyone is looking for low cost providers and then complains about the downtime (me included). So, if you find that 1 great company that has decent service/quality at a low price, DON'T TELL ANYONE ELSE! If you do, everyone will switch to them and their service will suffer Then you'll be looking for another provider.

thank god I didn't get my servers from Nocster, so many complains from them. Regards, Ali

<< thank god I didn't get my servers from Nocster, so many complains from them. >> That's a matter of opinion. The large majority of our clients are beyond happy wth our service, pricing, and support levels.

Posted by SoftWareRevue, 01-14-2004, 11:36 AM
I would fall into that group.

Posted by mikeym, 01-18-2004, 03:45 AM
