Nocster Brick 1 down - 75 minutes

Posted by sightz, 01-04-2004, 03:58 PM
It's another Sunday, another Nocster shared box crashed and NO one is anwering the phones at Burst. No one is logged in to burstAIM either. I have had 877-burstnet ringing for 20 minutes now, and a priority 1 reboot ticket in for an hour. I tried to PM this info to WHT member BurstNET (Burst's CEO) but he is not accepting PMs. Sorry to air this dirty laundry in public, but there are hundreds of different customers on each Nocster shared box and they really need to be monitored properly. Many, many sites are down and nobody is home at the DC.

Here is a traceroute. Anyone else able to connect?

Although they haven't responded to my ticket, or started picking up the phones, Brick 1 is back as of 3:33 EST. 1h:50 downtime Brick 4 went down at 2:58 EST and is still down They have finally updated their status forum to say they are having UPS issues.

http://forums.burst.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2076 They're probably still working on it. - Matt

All are back up now. The issue of the phones not being answered is bothersome.

Your opinion of Burst changed quickly compared to what you were posting yesterday. If they're working on it, perhaps they're too busy too answer the phone? Or there are too many calls flooding in with the downage of 2 servers...we'll find out I'm sure when Burst posts.

Good catch, you got me! Yeah, it tends to do that. I will wait for Burst's explanation, both for the downtime and for the "nobody's home" issue.

Those were the only shared servers that were down. They do have lots of dedicated servers, some of which were down too. Not too many were affected though. - Matt

Still down here and the phones just ring and ring.

Looks to be backup now, not sure how long went down this morning for about 4 hrs due to this power issue. They said they fixed it by rewiring everything and now down/up again.

Brick 1 has been down again for the last hour, after being up for a few...

Burst CEO, I know you read every thread where your name is mentioned. Could you tell us why the phones just ring and ring? Last edited by sightz; 01-04-2004 at 08:42 PM.

Probably because of people like you who like to call in and let it ring for 20 minutes while they are working on the server. Give it a rest... they knew it was down and decided not to answer the phone to tell you the same thing you already knew... IT WAS DOWN. Sirius

Their website says "Toll-Free 24-Hour Phone Support". It doesn't say "One guy at the NOC who will pick up the phone if he's not too busy." It has been my experience in the past that servers can be down, and they don't even know it until you call. After an hour, I call.

Brick 6 - (I think - 64.191.110.94 anyway) - has been down over 8 hours. My monitoring software tells me: Down since: 01/04/04 12:22:46 Central Time.

I agree with you. The reason the phones were not answered was due to the fact that all techs on duty were in the NOC working on the power problems. I do not intend this as an excuse, just as an explanation. We are working to avoid these situations in the future. I apologize for the problem.

Dan, Even just a recording saying "we know there is a problem, here is what it is, here is what we are doing to fix it, you will be back up in x minutes... etc." Just so we know somebody is home. It's not the first time there has been no answer on a Sunday.

Exactly read my post over at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...14#post1739314 and hear what the guy who answered the phone did to me. This is f*cking unacceptable. My server has been down about 4+ hrs same with someone elses

In case you didn't read his posts on the other thread, his server was down for a pre-scheduled, pre-notified hardware installation that took longer than expected. Boo Hoo Hoo. AND he's not a Burst/Nocster customer but a customer of one of their resellers. Not exactly relevant to the thread here.
