Here is the forum thread if anyone is interested: http://forum.fastservers.net/forum/i...?showtopic=159 We have the situation stabilized now, though we have a stand-by GBIC at the ready that we'll be utilizing if problems resurface. And if that doesn't do the trick we'll have narrowed it down to Hurricane's GSR.... We'll keep you posted on the Fastservers forum as the situation develops. Status has been completely normal for about 60 minutes now and counting.

Is your site hosted within the same network, because I can't seem to get to it either. Seems a little pointless if that's the case...

Posted by Aussie Bob, 12-31-2003, 02:23 PM
Yes, very pointless indeed! We have 1 server there that's not responding.

FWIW - I can't get there either (to that forum thread) guess it is the same problem as the thread I posted - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=221353 - I just didn't have any way of knowing it was related to fastservers when I posted it - sorry for the apparent duplication.

they merged it

http://69.22.176.168/ (Forum IP for those of you that have lost resolution already....) I should have provided that before, my bad. It's hosted at the Colo Exchange across the bay. We're in the middle of swapping out GBICs now, and potentially the line cards as well in both of the affected GSRs. Talk to you soon!

Meta Redirect Code You have a redirect htaccess possibly which still makes it not able to be loaded for those without resolution (Like us 45 minutes from the DC)

I noticed this and posted at 10am.. I saw that you guys new this for 90 minutes from when I posted.. so that means we have had problems in this for over 4 hours?? I understand that this happens but 3+ hours sure seems like a long time?? Robert

Good point, Samuel. Thanks. That's repaired

Hi, It would be nice to tell us approximately when the network will be back online. At least we will have something to tell our clients. Thanks

Robert, That meant that the router handshakes were up and down though largely stable during that time. In the past hour things have gone completely awry and that is the only extended downtime thusfar throughout the day today. It's been a rocky one so far, hopefully we're nearly at the end of this fiasco! Talk to you in a bit.

Posted by GWDGuy, 12-31-2003, 02:59 PM
According to their forum it should be 5-15 minutes to be fixed... of course that was 15 minutes ago I don't think I like this "Internet" thing... it sure does not seem to be very stable... maybe they should rebuild it. Just a thought... did you guys pay your electric bill? Just trying to help. Robert

Actually the latest details we have from Hurricane's end is that it may be a bad line card in their particular GSR that faces ours.... we're going to be routing around that, through a new card, this should be done within the next 15 minutes and then we'll know precisely where the core of the issues lies. This should be wrapped up within the hour considering we have all of the required hardware and expertise already onsite and engaged in the situation.

Posted by isildur, 12-31-2003, 03:02 PM
And I'll quote myself: Procedure should be wrapped up within 5 to 15 minutes. Talk to you soon! ..................... The procedure is done, and now we're working with Hurricane's router as it appears to potentially be the cause of the problem. Once we know more, you'll know more, I promise.

Posted by GWDGuy, 12-31-2003, 03:06 PM
Hmmmm. are you allowed to do that here? It might be against the WHT rules I'm back up again.... I hate downtime but I do have to admit FS does seem to jump fast on problems... I was just taken back on the amount of time as normally it is up and running quiker than that. I'm going to lunch! Robert

blame daniel...

As I promised- A bit more time will need to pass before we're all confident that this issue is behind us, however, the GBIC interface that our network segment was attached to on Hurricane's GSR started to deteriorate rapidly this morning and went completely south around noon, central standard time. After pinpointing the source of the issue alongside Hurricane's admin team, the GBIC in Hurricane's GSR was replaced and our routers began communicating harmoniously once again. We'll be keeping an eye on things throughout the day and of course throughout the night as well. Happy New Year's .... ! Perhaps 2004 will bring us a lessened frequency for router hardware chaos. *crosses fingers*
